07 4-Runner?

I wonder if the 4Runner will deviate further from its off-road type of roots?

I wonder if Lexus will adopt an FJ type of luxury FJ. I kind of doubt it.

But I'll continue it anyway... isn't it about time for a major redesign of both the Lexus LX and GX (and Landcruiser for that matter)? I've never really understood Toyota's different models for different markets approach. The GX, aka the Euro landcruiser Prado, or the LX, aka US landcruiser, or the 4runner aka Asian Hi-Lux aka Euro nothing.

I guess sit makes sense, just seems awfully confusing to me. I try explaining to my friends back home in the UK what car I have ("kinda like a bulbous, baby landcruiser but with a really bad name") and they've never heard of it!
 
whatever the marketing strategy Toyota is using, it seems to be working.

But we all know the strategy is not really a complicated strategy at all: build good automobiles they has a reputation to last forever (or at least till you get tired of it) and they will buy it.
 
I just wish Toyota could turn new designs around a little quicker. How about 5 years instead of 6 or 7 years. Stop wasting time and money on the mid-gen refreshing and just spend it all on new models quicker.

Because as with any company, its all about cost efficency. As long as it sells leave it or just slightly try to make it better. Kinda like the motto "if it isnt broken, don't fix it."

I can't imagine what it would cost to bring a concept to production. Just the R&D behind it has to cost a fortune.

Yeah, and Toyota has a fortune. And, if they do it right, sales better on new models so the costs may equal out in the end. Either way Toyota has the luxury of being able to do this and still stay very profitably. So give 'em to us sooner.
 
Toyota needs to wake up --- gas is $3.09/gallon and a record $76/barrel and they make the RAV4 larger and more powerful! I really like the specs on the New Mazda CX-7! 244 HP Turbo charged 2.3L with a 6 speed automatic. 235/60x18 tires. BOSE Audio with voice command navigation. Gets 18-24 MPG. Might not be a true off-roader but a sweet ride.

I hate the typical Honda 4-year cycle. I'd much rather have a 6/7 year cycle before a new generation comes out.

I typically buy the 2nd model year of a new generation, so a 4-year cycle wouldn't give me much time before my vehicle is the "old" model. I really wish all manufacturers would go to a 6 or 7 year cycle.
 
Why doesn't Porsche find a new shape every five years? Because it works and it is classic.

Change isn't always necessary good.

Isn't the RAV4 direct competition with the Mazda since it's about the same size but does have 25 more horses. I think Toyota is rigth on target with the RAV4.

The longer they keep a design the better. It makes it better/easier to get parts and they get to work out the bugs.At the end of the design run you end up with a much better vehicle.

I agree but lets face it, people like new and different things. By the time you are at the end of a design run you should have a better, more reliable vehicle but they are all over the place and that can get boring.
 
I really like the way Toyota will keep a vehicle design in place for longer than a year or two. I think it gives better customer satisfaction with existing owners in that you don't have to worry about your vehicle becoming outdated in a year or two.
