Hey t4r lovers. Has anybody used the low range offroad elocker harness to hook up their fj to 4runner swap? If so how did it go for you? The hardest part for me was feading the switch through the firewall boot. I attempted to remove the face of the switch not realising I'd have a couple inners fall out. Everything was reassembled and plugged in and then tested. Right now I'm experiencing no activation in the diff. The switch has two lights but only the bottom one illuminates. The top light that indicates the the locker is being locked does nothing, no blink no flicker. The harness from low range came with no instructions to tell me what to expect. Does anybody have a set up like this and if so how do the switch lights signal you when your enguaged or disengaged. Thanx guys.

My buddy used that wire harness when he did his FJ retro fit last year. He said it's been working great for him so far. @absolutyoda maybe he'll chime in,I don't think he's been on here to much lately. I am actually going to be doing my retro fit soon within the next couple of months. I still have to order my harness, I was either going to order it from Low range off road or Off road solutions ? Pretty much both the same price. Did you do the retro fit yourself ? How did the instal go?

The harness I orderd is complete so I didn't have to retrofit anything. It has two plugs on one end for the diff, 1 wire for the battery, 1 wire for the ground, 1 wire for the acc+ fuse and the switch which has 10 wires in the back of it. Does your friends switch stay up or down? Dose it blink when it trys to enguage. Do both lights stay on when it's locked?

I bent my original axle housing and I have the 4 spd auto, so I'm rocking the 390 gears. The only one I could find with the 390s instead of 373s was out of an 07 fj which happened to have a factory elocker. Lowrange advertises a plug and play harness for this application so we can bypass the computer and use the rear locker in 2H 4H or 4L.

No i know the harness is plug and play i was talking about retro fitting the FJ e locker 3rd member. I know the exact harness your talking about i'm just not that familiar with it myself. I believe when he flips the switch the indictor light come on letting you know the locker is engaged. Again idk but i would think both lights would stay on. My other buddy Superman3042 has the wire harness from ORS maybe he can chime in and give you some answers. Like i said before i think there the same harnesses just made by two different companies

Oh ok so you swapped out your whole rear. My bad i thought you retro fitted the FJ e locker 3rd member. That's what i'm about to do to mine soon. That worked out great for your though grabbing up that whole rear housing with the locker in it!

Sorry I tryed to do this in one reply. These are just pics of the bent axle out, the loss on two brand-new Cooper ATPs and the fj rear installed.
I was all giddy on wedsday when I received my present to myself (harness) I thought it worked at first but it was just my andymod. LolDOE! I'm hoping worse case is I fubard my switch.

Engage the locker by running power straight to the motor that way you can eliminate the possibility of a non functional actuator.

With my previous truck i made my own harness activated by an oem switch.

How does one achieve this? :help:

How did you manage to bend the axle bad enough for those tires to wear out like that? Also how old are those tires?

Not to rain on your parade or instill fear, but I recall hearing those '07 FJ diffs are very fragile.

Oh I'm already afraid and my parade is wet. I tried bringing this up in another post before. When i got The runner I thought I was doing myself a favor getting the 4 spd with 390s. WRONG. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm gonna do come gear time. Hopefully if I don't go bigger than 275/70 then the diff won't be under to much stress. I may stick with the 265/70s for now but as far as someday goes I want an arb rear locker, 456 gears with 285/70s. Supposedly I just need a carrier for the 373s and the new set if gears but wouldn't I need new axle shafts too? What all goes in to a job like that?
I bent the axle landing slideways in the sand. Only a couple weeks after buying the tires (new). The wear is about 5ish months of 50+ miles a day to work.

Yeesh... that's rough. Yeah I'd just set aside a rainy day fund for the ARB and some nice Yukon gears or something (lots of good affordable aftermarket options). I wouldn't be paranoid about it though. :)

Im honestly really upset with what ive ran in to with issues ive had. You would think anything except the axle housing would bend. And I really wish I didn't have a discontinued pos fj axle in my 4runner. Good news is my non modified new silver ebay ucas held up during the incident.

Your runner turned out great man congrats. What sort of milage do you get?

No... I completely flubbed that... dunno why I mis-read that as you not being able to find 3.73 gears instead of 3.90. My fault, sorry. :whipping2

I really can't find any 3.90 gear sets... how weird...

What I understand is that the carrier for my diff won't support or hold a thicker ring and pinion set for lower gears.
However I read that I can get just a carrier thats meant for 3.73s and build it like your saying. But does that mean I can use my same axle shafts and that's it?

As long as the shafts and splines are the same I don't see why not?
