07 Gas mileage

When we bought our 07 4runner the gas was ok, first and 2nd full tank i was getting 17-18.9 city now it has 900 miles i'm only getting 12-13.9 city why is it like that?

im using regular gas..

If this from the onboard trip computer? If so, try resetting it. I don't even use it as it isn't very accurate.

:iagree: Ignore the trip computer on the dash - it's not right. Record your mileage with the trip odometer, and then divide by the amount of fuel you put in the tank.

You don't mention whether you've got a V6 or V8 - the V8 will do slightly worse than the V6. I'm getting about 15.5 city with the V8. EPA perfect world estimate is 16 city, so I'm right there.

I reset the trip computer every 3-4 tankfuls and take 7% off the reading at each fill-up.

It then seems to compare accurately with the hand calculated mileage figures. In this way it is useful because it is repeatedly 7%, or so, off. So normalize the reading and you should be pretty close to the real number every time.

I know its not the right thing you want to hear,but just give it time to break in . don't worry about the in dash comp. ( although I find mine pretty accurate ).

Way to soon to worry , break it in first. The comps are still learning.

This is correct and has been verified by myself & others.

Also, many 4R odometers are under-reporting by around 3%. This was the case with mine, and I checked it with a GPS & mile markers a few times.

When my tachometer (electronics) went out this spring (around 55k miles), they replaced the entire instument cluster. After that, my odometer seems to under-report now only about 1.5%, which is negligable. (But now I notice my speedometer over-reports about 2 MPH going at 60!) Perhaps new models have more accurate ones.
