'07 Speaker replacement

Just bought my first 4runner ('07 SR5). It has the basic stereo system. I am thinking about upgrading the speakers as my first option for improving the sound quality. Can someone tell me what the existing speaker sizes are, I haven't tried removing the door panels yet ?

Also, I will be staying with the same arrangement, i.e., no change in speaker grills or opening size, can you guys give me recommendations for new speakers ?
? Should I replace all or just the rear ?

Is this my best option for improving sound quality or is the head unit replacement a better option ?

Thanks,........ Chuck

If you replace the speakers you will need a bracket to attach the new speakers to. I got my speakers from Crutchfield.com and they came with the necessary brackets for free. Changing out the speakers is pretty straight forward if you get them from Crutchfield because they provide detailed instructions on removing the door panels.

As far as sound is concerned the stock head unit in the 4Runner is pretty crappy so you won't get any better sound out of new speakers. IMO I'd go with an new head unit first then upgrade the speakers.
