07 V8 limited feels like transmission binding in AWD!

Hi guys, wanted to see if I could get some input from you all in an attempt to save a dealer visit. I have an 07 V8 limited which is full time AWD, but when I reverse, or forward for that matter, at very low speed 1 mph or so while hard turning, it feels like the transmission is binding. Kinda like when you are in true 4x4 mode and turn on dry pavement. You can even hear it a little bit...sort of a deep rumble type noise. I didn't know if this is consistent with all Runners or not so I thought I would ask. I do not have my differential lock engaged incase your wondering.

Sounds just like the center diff IS locked. I know you say it's not, but have you tried cycling it in/out a few times? Maybe for some reason it has not un-locked?
 
You might could check by spinning the tires...w/ it locked, it should spin. Without it locked VSC will kick in and limit wheel spin and cut power. Although if it says it's not locked, that might not work. Good luck, hope you figure it out.
 
Unlock the center differential. Sounds like you are in fulltime 4wheel drive and that is not good for pavement. Small button to the left of steering wheel with an "X" inside the axles and tires. Also this should turn the light on your dash, same symbol bright orange, off. If you light is not on and your diff is locked, you have a problem.
 
Bah! Nope...that wasn't it. Quit a lot of resistance turning with differential lock. My issue is only a slight resistance...only when wheel is turned hard.
Well, it was certified last month. Could be my imagination. I'll report what I when I get a chance to have it looked at.

I get a similar vibration/noise sometimes. It usually occurs right after start up, like taking off after backing out of a parking space. I voiced my concern sometime last year and several folks chimed saying theirs' has done it since the day they got it. If in fact your center diff is unlocked I wouldn't sweat it unless it gets worse.

Ya that sounds right! Usually when I back outta the garage into the street (turn left), then pull forward (turn right). I guess I'll just mention it next time im at the dealer and not make a special trip.

I've heard this is normal and remember reading it on this forum. There was someone who explained it thouroughly before and I will try to locate the post for you. Had something to do with the low speeds not creating the torque required to overcome what the torsen gears are doing. Dont quote me on that, I am by no means an expert just trying to recall something i read and its probably way off anyways

I used to have an 04 V8 that did it and my current 05 V8 does it too when pulling forward after reversing out of a parking space. It stops as soon as I get over a couple mph and straighten out. I remember the post putting my mind at ease so, I'll try and locate it for you.

This sounds exactly like my problem and the way you explained it sounds logical. Let me/us know if you find that post!
