08' 4runner few questions..

Hey guys, new proud owner of a 2008 4runner sr5 v6 4.0. I was hoping to pick your minds with a few questions I had. First, I have 36,000 miles on the truck, can someone elaborate on what kind of warranty I have left? I did get some sort of plastic warranty card that says " certified pre owned" on it if that means anything.

Also, I purchased this 4runner from a private owner and was wondering what kind of deal I got. As mentioned above, its a 2008 Toyota 4runner with 36k on it, its a sr5 4.0 liter I bought it off craigslist and here is the link 2008 Toyota 4Runner It does not have a tow package but does have a sunroof (not mentioned in the ad.) I paid $19,900

Also, is there any TSB's I should be aware of or any recalls I should get done?

Thanks guys!! Im excited about being an active member :thumb3:

From what I've gathered over the past year owning my 07 4 Runner. If incorrect, please forgive my ignorance

First check if the original owner had purchased any extended warranty over the 3yr 36K. That warranty is transferrable once for a fee or $50.

If he hasn't.

Warranty can be purchased if the vehicle is under 36Kmiles or 3 years. In your case, it would be the 36K miles. If you are still fairly close to the 36K mile mark. I would contact the Toyota dealer listed on the following thread. When I purchased the extended warranty on mine, he said there was some slack in the terms, but not too much.

They can get you an extended warranty for a reasonable price.

There are other posts on here regarding good prices on extended warranties

Dasanii19,

Congrats on the purchase. The price does not sound bad, but it’s hard to say without knowing the condition of the truck, availability in your area, etc. The factory warranty is 3 year / 36k so unless you got a transferable extended warranty I believe you are out of warranty coverage.

I don’t have the exact same truck as you, I have an 08 limited, but I have not heard of or received any recalls thus far. As for TSB’s these are a little different than recalls as they don’t require anything to be fixed. If there is a common problem Toyota may have a TSB on how to fix / service the problem so TSB’s are more like “how to’s” for the dealer. Some TSB’s may extend warranty coverage on specific parts while others don’t. But on that token I have not come across any TSB’s for the 08’s either.

Have fun with your new toy!

Thanks for the reply's guys..

The previous owners didn't mention having a extended warranty but did give me a paper with a plastic card stuck to it stating:

Then there is a card that says on it:

VIN: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Transferable YES
Deductible: $50 per repair visit

So can anyone explain to me what this all means?

Dasanii19,

The truck is pretty much mint condition inside. The exterior has two pea sized dings (very small). Other then that, the tires are in great shape and everything else is like brand new. KBB was pulling up at $25k. I just didn't know what the real market value was on the truck, im in NV next to Lake Tahoe. I would like to know how I did being that I paid $19,900. The truck is CPO.

Thanks

Sounds like you did great~! I just picked up an '08 SR5 Sport, super clean w/45k miles on it fir $22k. It's a deal around here where there isn't much around and most 4Rs are $$$$. It's a HUGE upgrade from my Jeep! :)

So it seems that you bought the 4Runner from it's second owner. The fact that he gave you "certified pre-owned" paperwork shows that he purchased the vehicle used from a dealership. The CPO warranty should be transferable, so that's a good thing for you.

So would you buy any other warranty on top of the cpo warranty if you were me? Or should I be good to go?

Sweet! Thanks for posting. Isn't the sr5 and the sport two different packages?
