08 Ltd 4X 18 inch rims or 17 inch?

Guys, I just bought a 2008 V8 Limited 4X4. I am going to put on some new wheels and rubber. Do you have any opinion on whether to use 17s or 18s on a limited? I know they come stock with 18s. any advantages or disadvntages? Thanks!

So would be helpful to have an idea what you plan to do and are hoping for tire wise. I like the 18 inch options of the 265 70 18 tires or 275 70 18 personally.

For something that might see any off-road use, I prefer the smallest rim that will clear the calipers. Leaves more room for sidewall.

For street use, it doesn't matter, your preference.

As others have mentioned, it'd be good to know what you use the truck for. If your wife drives it to get groceries and to work, putting 18's and LT tires isn't a great option.

17's will be the best "truck" tire, generally speaking. More compliance to road handling and better offroad due to more sidewall flex available.

18's will make the truck feel more responsive onroad... but bumps that the 17's would remove will rattle the occupants around a bit. Depends on a lot of variables of course, like suspension / sway bars, tire type, etc. Generally speaking, the 18's will make you feel closer to the road, for all that's good and bad about that.

I'm on 275/65/18 XL Ridge Grapplers and love them. (This size also requires a lift.)

Shopped around, and it was about the lightest tire I could find in the approximate similar sizes. I started on the OEM 18's, and it felt a bit sloppy when responding to steering input.

I found a deal on some 18x9, which straightened out the sidewalls and it's a lot better.

Yeah, they're not a comfortable offroad as 17s would have been but I'm not doing anything hardcore. Air them down to 15-18 and it really helps offroad.
