Earlier 4th gens (2003-07), there was a door covering the outlet (one, rather than two) on the left of the shifter. I don't remember if Toyota moved the switch in '08 models or not.

That's the center console of a '09 Trail Edition.

Interesting. I don't know if I like it better though. I suppose it would be slightly more convenient. But I think it looks a little busy with all that stuff there exposed. I do like the idea of another outlet. I don't know why seeing as I never use the one I have, but still, more outlets = more manly. haha

my '08 is on dash, looking at '09, didn't see it, but knew it was standard, just curious. thanks for the info and pics.

It was a design change for the "ultra-rare" (how many have you seen?) 2009 4Runners. Having driven many 06-08 T4R's (in the rental car business), I find the new location to be much handier-it's right at my fingertips. And having two outlets is great, although I haven't yet hotwired one of them to be always on.

You can get a second outlet with the accessory ashtray kit.

I thought A-Trac was automatic on 4th Gens. Why does this one have a switch for it? I totally want these parts for my 2007 Sport. What all would I need to do to get this all set up this way? This seems very similar to the FJ I drove once upon a time, was that the idea with the 2009's? Build a rare FJ-ish 4Runner and see what happens since they were headed that direction with the 2010 anyway?

I love the window switch there and the two power outlets though. I hate the outlet that is hidden down below the door, especially since the Aux is in the center console a foot away from the power.

Anyone knows from where i can get the switch for the 2009 4runner? I wan to put it where the ashtray is at.
