09 Trail Edition

Just curious. About how many 09 Trail Editions were built and sold. I have one, and have only seen one other on the road, and only heard about 3 or 4 others throughout the country.

What makes a trail a trail?

In 2009, a TE consists of Bilstein shocks, 16" FJ Cruiser alloy rims, blackened side mirrors & step, water resistent seat fabrics, Tom Tom portable navigation/radio, A-TRAC (off-road version), and rear locker.

It was basically a SR5 4runner with the above stuff. And since it is a 4th gen, it came with Torsen center differential so that you can run in both 2wd and 4wd. For me, what makes it special are the stuff that i bolded. :)

Do you know whether the 5th gen addressed the brake caliper corrosion issue, the underbody rust issue, and the catalytic converter/sulfur smell issues? Those were 3 of the big issues with the 4th gen.

'bout tree-fiddy

no idea if you can the breakdown on the trim levels sales

It is the rarest of all 4G's without a doubt.

EDIT: tbh, I remember reading somewhere they were going to only make like 8k. I have yet to see one.

No idea...u may want to wait and follow 5th gen forum.

I doubt it. They are almost mechanically and structurally(underneath at least) identical.

But, rusting is just a matter of quality of sealant/coating or whatever they put on it...and also on the manufacturer(s) that they use to make the frame/calipers/etc.. I would hope that they improve upon it.

I thought Mr. T made the frames.

They make the 100 frames, ship them across town and mount the bodies on them. I assume the 120 frame is similar.

How big of a deal is the rust issue? Seems to be a lot of people putting a lot of miles on the 4th generation, suggesting it is not a 4runner killer. Of course, in states where they salt the roads it should be worse.

It took me literally 1 year of looking before I found one for sale and I had to fly 750 mi to go pick it up. Ive never seen another one. In the 7 months I've owned it though there have been at least 4 more listed for sale online nationwide so they do exist. Couldn't be happier with mine!
