1 Year Oil Change

A few years ago I went to once a year oil changes, with a limit of 10,000 miles as the fall back. I did some oil analysis on the 4Runner before supercharging, after supercharging, and finally after adding the water/meth to see if anything impacted oil life or other elements in the analysis.

My requirements for oil are easy to get and reasonably priced, so I went with what I went with....but any good brand synthetic would likely yield similar results.

I actually just realized that, since I have moved to 10k mile oil changes, it has been about 13 months (and 8k miles) since my last change. I might reconsider this interval since my commute and errand distances are so short (2 miles or less for any given trip, usually).

i really like the analysis. I do oil changes at every 5000 and use oem filters but I do a lot of heavy traffic rush hour driving twice a day and overlanding in summer and fall. now I am rethinking cause the facts you provided. And facts are facts.

I do once a year oil changes, but I added more stress on the engine lately with more boost so I think an oil analysis is due for me. There's plenty of oils that can last that long, but you need an equally good oil filter to go with it or it won't matter how good your oil is.

Very well done. I have been using Pennzoil Synthetic Platinum and will continue to do so. For me it's about being readily available at Walmart for $27 for 5qt and they usually have a rebate going on. I bought two 5qt jugs about 3 weeks ago and just got my $20 rebate in from Pennzoil yesterday. That comes out to $17 for 5qts y'all.....hard to pass up that price.
I'm running MobilOne oil filters....good to know I've been using a solid filter. I just buy them because my brother, who works for XM as an engineer says to get them....and I sort of trust him lol.
MB1 has rebates every once in a while, but Pennzoil is pretty consistent with theirs.

Agreed on the filter for sure. I've tested both Purolator Pure One filters (my preference due to price) as well as Mobil 1 and found no discernible differences in the analysis results. Now that Wally World local to me carries Mobil 1, I may just start getting those as they do not carry Purolator and it saves me a second stop.

Bingo! I have people all the time ask about Amsoil or the expensive purple stuff....both probably work great but don't meet my cost effective and easy to get requirement. As said above, M1 filters are excellent.

As an alternative to the standard oil drain plug, I installed the "Fumoto F-103N Engine Oil Drain Valve" which I found on Amazon. I believe I first learned about it on this forum.

Rather than dealing with a removable plug, with the Fumoto it's just a matter of flipping the switch to start the draining process, then flipping it back to close. It's slower, but mindless. I've had it on my '99 for around 5k miles, and no oil leaks on the garage floor, etc.

I'm doing 1-year oil changes with WIX premium (synthetic) oil filter and full synthetic 5W-30 - so far so good. 10K cap seems reasonable

Thanks for sharing this. I was going to look into one of these since I'm going to be putting on aftermarket skid plates and thought this would make draining the oil much easier.

Ever consider the Motorcraft FL400s filter since your at Wally World? I also use the Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra.

The more I think about it in the context of a one-year oil change the sillier it is, because why wouldn't you want to remove your skid plates at least once a year to inspect? Lol

I just started running amsoil signature series. after 7000 miles the oil still has a red-ish brown color to it. I have about 6 months left to go yet.

I bought the not well cared for 96 with 220,000 miles on it. First thing I did was switch to synthetic. Then fixed the front crank seal that was leaking before hand but got worse. (Time for a timing belt job anyway)
