'10 Trail vs '17 Pro

Ok. I'm gonna give this a try and ask for your opinions. Dare I do this, cuz everyone has their own preferences but here goes:

My scenario is:

1) Keep my existing 2010 Trail w 61K miles in perfect condition with mods (ToyTec BOSS, 285 tires and wheels, roof rack, BudBuilt Skid plates, Rigid lights, stepbars). My next mod was gonna be Katzkin leather upgrade when I then thought about maybe upgrading to a Pro is "smarter". I drive approx 7K/yr

or

2) Trade for 2017 Pro that has leather of course, but needs (roof rack, sliders, BFG KO2 275)...Note: I might keep my GOBI + lights as it will fit on Pro

So the bottom line question is keep my Trail w 61K and upgrade to leather or walk away and start over with 0 mile Pro. Keep in mind my needs have not outgrown my Trail. I'm only concerned about putting more money (~$2500 for leather) into my Trail w 61K miles.

What you think?

and I think not a good answer is "cuz the Pro is cool"

I think your 2010 is much nicer. I prefer the front end more than the 4.5.
2010 is barely broken in at 60k miles
You are probably feeling a little bored with the vehicle. I would do a few more mods and save the $.
If a 6th gen comes out in a few years you may get the itch then?
I love the early trails in silver, rugged yet clean look!
 
This is a funny thread. I just purchased a silver '12 TE w/KDSS and my BFF just purchased a cement Pro. My vote goes to keeping your Trail and Katzkin leather upgrade (I prefer to not have leather but that's arbitrary). No offense to any Pro guys, but in your case it seems like you're starting over and getting leather interior. Yes, I do know what I'm leaving out, but your rig is well kept and you're on a good path with your current mods. Good luck either way, I like both!
 
If it's me I'd just swap to new headlight or front end. There isn't much diff to 17 other than front end,paint or softex. If I was you I'd swap front end or vinyl wrap new color if your bored. I believe all your parts fit over as well not just Gobi

Nice 4Runner! I would also keep that sweet 2010. It's not even broke in yet and has some great additions to it. I have been pretty vocal on here (trd pro thread) about my opinion of the PRO...it's a waste of money.

Here is why I feel that way and this is no offense to PRO owners...your PRO is nice...I like money better...again...my opinion...this is all on me ok..:ybrick:
1. they usually will not give you a deal on a PRO because of demand. So you pay a huge premium over getting a deal on a base TE.
2. The PRO is basically an appearance package. The only real (sort of) performance upgrade over a standard TE is the suspension and tires. Both those can be had aftermarket for a better price and there are many choices to be had. Also the aftermarket suspension is way better and even a lot of PRO owners replace their PRO suspension with aftermarket after paying a premium for the stock suspension.

Again the PRO is just a base TE with fancy paint, wheels and tires, a barely upgraded suspension, vinyl seating, and a few PRO badges thrown in for a very high price....

If you want new than get a base TE and mod it out with better aftermarket equipment for cheaper or about the same price as a stock PRO. Better yet...

Save your money and go on some nice trips with the family or whomever in your sweet 2010.:fishing:

I know you prob don’t want to hear it, but KEEP IT! That thing is awesome... and I shiote you not, coming from a ’14 TEP owner... I still think 2010/11 silver Trails with the right MODs are the best looking Runners around.

P.S. - best MOD looks to be your front windshield shade... just sayin’.... :thumb:
 
I'd wait a few months and see what the 6th gen brings.. could go either way. That said katskinz are superior to softex, I'd say superior to the factory leather in my limited as well.
 
Glad I clicked on this thread. I'm in the same situation you are currently in. I have a 2011 silver TE that only has 31,000 miles and have really enjoyed if for my use. I've never done any major mods except for adding some new Bilstein 5100/5160's and some Duratracs. Have been kicking around exactly what you are, trade for a new Pro or just go for some leather upgrades and maybe a couple other things??? After reading this I guess keeping it isn't a bad idea.

Nice rig by the way, looks pretty much perfect!!
 
It's very rare that any "what should I do..." thread gets a consensus from this group, but you did.... and I agree, the '10-'13 TEs are the best looking 5th Gen there is.

Take a deep breath - you just have new car fever, buy the leather.
 
Ok. This has been the best experience for me. Thanks guys. The overwhelming "keep the Trail" is VERY obvious and that I shall do. I was leaning that way, but needed a little nudging. Your BIG nudging definitely helps. Next will be Katzkin and I will update on more progress later. Thanks a bunch everyone :)
