Jimbo Barret is the owner of Barret Auto in B'ham AL, asked him about a trans flush on my T4R and he pointed at 2 Lexus SUV's in his shop for bad transmissions b/c of a flush at a Toyota Dealer. Most Toyota Service writers are not concerned about your car, only the money they make off it. We did a drain and fill. He said there is no need to do several drain and fills just 1 ever 30k. Jimbo is a certified Master Mechanic specializing in Toyota and Lexus with his own shop that looks like one on TV, its so nice and clean with the latest equipment. It's nice to have a great and honest mechanic that dosn't mind answering all my ridiculous questions.

Retco, if I may ask, how much did your trans change cost? I think we have the highest mile rigs here, and I am going to have to get this done myself, I Just hit 105K. I too know a trusted Toyota master mechanic who I will take it to. Thanks for your help.

Was up man, I think like 4.62 a quart for the T-IV fluid x4, but i think it only took 3 1/2 quarts, and i think like 20-30$ labor. Next time i will do it myself, i had him do it b/c i was already there gettin all other fluids changed, and still had questions about a drain @ fill, or flush @ fill, and he made it very clear to me to do a DRAIN @ FILL. You can get a 2$ bucket from Lows with quart measurements and just take the bolt out of the bottom of the trans pan let drain untill it starts dripping, screw bolt back in and refill same amount through your dip stick. Very simple on the 03's. Good Luck.

I did a drain and refill on my 04 a couple of weeks ago. It took 4.5 quarts to replace what I drained. This put the fluid level exactly in the middle of the hot range on my dipstick. Don't forget to buy a new crushable washer. This is a very easy job to do yourself.
