gauges

i had to fab up 2 gauge pods for now to accommodate the 2 gauges. i have a wideband and boost by AEM. now i can finally tune my URD components.

airaid

installed an Airaid intake tube so i could remove the ISR setup. Got this from a buddy of mine ;)

install of oil catch can

installed a oil catch can so theres no more oil being sucked up through the intake from the PCV. mounted nicely.

CV Boot failure...

CV boot had a small crack in one so decided to replace boots on both sides with OEM Toyota.

the leak...

NOTE: do not use the cv boot pliers i got!! they are not strong enough to properly bend the clamp from toyota because toyota clamps are way thicker gauge than most aftermarket. i reordered heavy duty pliers.

done!!

Knock sensor failure!!!

worst thing ever... Knock sensor failure. replaced both with aftermarket sensors not em and been couple months or so and no issues. used brand new OEM Gaskets. I did not reuse them. Crazy that folks were saying they reused the gaskets and i don't see how. they have rubber o-rings built on the gasket that tear apart when removed if they have been on a while. Replacing the knock sensors is a subject nobody knows exactly what to do! its a hit or miss. folks say that 99% is the harness failure and some say not its just a back and forth thing. mine was the harness. it was completely heat damaged but i had already got the sensors and said might as well install. mainly same as everyone says to do because of the work involved. my backup plan was if it still failed, i was gonna buy another harness and unplug the other and plug new one in and plug the knock sensors back on and hide them. i care less if my engine starts knocking and i can't hear it... more reason for me to get a LS engine swap done!!! haha. anyways, serous note: just buy all items and be done with it because oem gaskets were sold each at 50 buck pop each and the labor involved was pain also not to mention i forgot, for safe piece of mind, buy all new fuel injector boring kits!!! after i was all done, my injector was pissing everywhere!!! i agitated it apparently and it leaked so i had to remove my supercharger AGAIN!!!
also i did replace my valve cover gaskets while i was that far down into the engine...there was residual that may turn into major leaking so what the hell...might as well.

all good now!!

Looking good! Any pics of the gauges installed? Where did you get the catch can?

Thanks!! Ill get pics of the gauges installed soon and the catch can was eBay. tons there and different styles and such. the one i chose fit very well in the area i mounted.

Killer so far. I'm also really curious about the lightbar headlights as well. Every bar I've had experience with so far sprays a wide open flood or throw pattern with no cutoff whatsoever.

Do you have any plans to install some sort of solenoid operated cutoff shield?

Also, assuming a 55w HID puts out roughly 5k lumens, how do these compare?

theres no cutoff but they worked great! with the dimmer i had no issues and complaints. i liked having them because all i had for offroad lighting was a 20" led bar so with the dual 7" led bars it was just enough for now untill my custom full length roof rack is finished so i can mount my 42" bar! so before i got a chance to show any pics of the lighting or video i sold them to a member here and friend of mine local and he now loves them. i had the projector retrofil before by Morimoto and i honestly did not like them for performance and quality plus i had issues with flickering and sometimes intermittent lights not working. also if i set the led lightbar headlights beside a set of 55w hids, my lightbars seemed so much brighter and more coverage of the lighting.
remember though, my runner is not a daily driver. i put maybe 2000 miles on it in a year. but anyways, they are gone now and i did purchase locally at DDM Tuning another projector retrofit kit to try out, which im sure your familiar with, lol. i bought the 3" d2s kit with the 55watt 6k bulbs as well as porsche shrouds. i just finished the retrofit and ill be mounting the 42" led lightbar on my new safari rack very soon. ill be getting my rack this saturday from a member her... drabbits from camelback metal gear.

Another projector retrofit....

got rid of my custom led lightbar headlights because im not gonna need all that considering ill be installing a 42" lightbar on my new rack when i pick it up saturday. so i sold them and went with a DDM Tuning projector kit. i used the 3" D2S projector kit with porsche cayenne shrouds and 55watt 6k bulbs and balasts. i painted the housings satin black and shrouds gloss black. i just finished the process of baking and assembly. just finished the install and no grill in yet till i install my trans cooler soon.

o well

well guess im screwed then.... trs was crap to me, the reflective area in the projector housing was crap. it was a waste. first time i installed the stuff the trs ballast was bad. then had to wait for turn around then they sold me on some sort of relay kit for my flickering problem which didnt work.
so now i have DDM and its working and no issues so hmmmmmmmmmm...
trs has pretty packaging and very nice window stickers, thats it as far as im concerned. thanks tho for you positive kind words as always MTD.

Haha well you let us know how it works out for ya.

10AC -- Please, please take some pics of the beam pattern. This is exact setup I plan on running. Can't wait to see :)

If you didn't like TRS stuff good luck with that... DDM is bottom of the barrel garbage compared to TRS...

I've had very hit and miss results with TRS. I've seen DDM firsthand a lot and they are usually brighter and more consistent color temperature. I've run TRS on my last 2 conversions, but this 4runner is getting DDM.

Farewell 4runner

Sold the 4runner yall. Shes been awesome and fun to build. Lots of bloody knuckles and money in it but decided i havent had the time to do much wheeling. Ive had it 3 years and put 8k miles on it. So bought a 2013 toyota tacoma trd offroad 4x4 double cab with locker. Plans to lift 3" and install scs sr8 wheels and 285's and drive it daily. Anyways, you all have been very helpful here and ive met some really cool people here. See yall soon.
