Hello boys n girls it's been a while and a busy summer for me. Thought I would take a second to tell an old story from back in May. Gather around everybody! :behindsofa:
So I got my truck in January from a Toyota dealer and with it the salesman threw in a free oil change. No problems there, but that maybe because I saw the truck online, test drove it, told my credit union I wanted it, they wrote me a check, and I got the eff outta the dealership. They didn't have to sell it to me. May comes around and I decide to take advantage of this free oil change. I haven't had my oil changed by anyone else in over 5 years and I was reminded of why after I brought it in.
So I tell the guy that I'm bringing in my truck for an oil change and I'd like synthetic since there wasn't anything specified against it on the voucher. He reluctantly agrees, stating that I didn't need synthetic, and my wife and I are there for an hour as they changed the oil. (Reason 1). They did their little inspection chart and marked a leak coming from the front diff.
We leave and everything seems fine until a week after the oil change when I notice oil on the ground where my car sits. I thought well maybe it's that differential leak they were talking about. I decide to go under the truck and look for myself. Something seems odd. The first thing that I notice, being that I had just put in the transmission cooler 2 weeks prior, is that the rear skid plate was completely missing which is why oil was getting on the ground to begin with. (Reason 2) I then notice that there was oil leaking, from the oil drain bolt because there was no washer on the bolt. (Reason 3) So I am under the vehicle pretty pissed and decide to call the dealership while I'm under the car. They inform me that the manager is out and I decide to drive there immediately.
I explain to the guy wtf was up and he had the nerve to say "I doubt that we would forget to put a skid plate back on":uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi: (Reason 4) I'm a pretty chill guy, but I was pissed. I told them to fix that shit. Another hour of waiting, they put the skid plate and washer back on. They apologize without stating why this even happened.
Here's what really bothered me. First, they couldn't even do the f-ing oil change correctly. (Reason 5) Mistakes happen, but the fact that they didn't bother to call and say hey sorry we forgot to put your skid plate back on please bring the truck back. (Reason 6) I had to find out on my own! (Reason 7) There are plenty of people who rely on the dealership to take care of their cars and not do it themselves so how many people are they doing this to??
I'm taking my truck on a little trip out east tomorrow so I changed the oil this week and guess what? The front differential isn't leaking anything, nothing, zero, zilch, dry. (Reason 8) Cost me $30 bucks for Valvoline MAX Life Synthetic and filter versus $70 at the dealer. (Reason 9) I reported this incident to Toyota on their surveys that they send to my email about service visits and I haven't heard anything from them (Reason 10). I've always wanted a 4runner and I love mine but I was reminded that other people probably don't give a shit! (Reason 11) I'm sure that every dealership isn't like this, but I guess you never really find out you take that chance.(Reason 12)
