Just recently purchased a T4R 4th gen and would like to put two 12's in the rear. Any suggestions of what brand and models? I use to have some kicker comps in my Jeep and they didnt seem to bad, now i'm just looking for something a little more powerful. I plan on powering them with my 1200 watt sony xplode amp. thanks in advance

My wife has a single JL Audio 12W6v2 in her Tribute. Absolutely pounds! I will be starting off with the single 13W6v2 to start off my stereo possibly going for two if I feel like I need more (probably not). Always had great success with JL's products. Some people do gripe about their prices, but I always go by the old saying you get what you pay for.
Case in point: I bought a pair of 12W3's back in 2000 that were the $h** back in the day, pounded the hell out of them, and are now slamming in my bro-in-law's fully ICE'd out Mazda3.

Trade the Sony amp (an amp that will be rated far higher than it actually produces) for an MTX amp (an amp that will produce more than it's rated for). Pick up a couple of their subs while you're at it. I just love MTX products though.
You can't go wrong with JL though, they rock.

Well the RMS of the amp really helps dictate which sub to go with.

I think i may have to purchase a stronger amp, but that wont be right away. I'm in hope that the stock JBL speakers will withhold the torture for a little while. Thanks for all the input guys!

Get a matching amp and sub. Weather it be Focal, JL, etc., most of these subs are designed to be driven with their power. At least that is what everyone tells me and it kind of makes sense.
But trust me on the components up front. Will make a WORLD of difference. You can probably find some on ebay as long as you ask the right questions

You don't have to get matching equiment. All amps put out the same product.
I would check out the FI Q. I would say go with a single 12" for 15".

put your money towards a good amp. u cant go wrong with putting a little money into a good amp. mxt jl kicker..... all of them make good amps judt do your research to match the amp with the speakers ohm rating.

Those "good" amps you are talking about will put out over their rated power probably.
I also wouldn't trust your local guy 100%. He is probably working on commission so he is trying to sell you stuff.

I doubt it's even putting out that much. Sony's amp are really not good.
I've see the formula somewhere and it is just crazy. I've searched online a little and can't seem to find it. I just know that there is a big difference.

i don't understand how they can advertise an amp to be 1200 watts when it is nowhere near that even in optimum conditions peaking out.
That is just as good as false advertising.
I mean if Sony's 100x4 amp only puts out 30 watts you might as well run your speakers off of the head unit right?.......

It is pretty much false advertising and it certainly confuses a lot of people.
Focal or Alpine are both good choices. Your looking for a four channel?
