12' Subwoofer suggestion

A four channel to run my two sets of Focal components. Don't really have any interest in a sub at this point. Have been looking at the Focal 4.75 but it is steep!

I am in a conundrum as we speak. Missed the boat on a Focal on ebay for $250. The dealer wants $615 for a new one. OUCH!!!

i don't understand how they can advertise an amp to be 1200 watts when it is nowhere near that even in optimum conditions peaking out.

It all depends on what voltage the manufacturer rates their amp at. A good manufacturer advertises the amp output in the 12V range. Because most cars put out 12.8-13.5V while running, this means the amp would actually over achieve published values when running. A "false advertised" amp would be rated at about 14.4V which is NOT what a car puts out when running. So an amp that says it does 1200W at 14.4V may only do 900W or so at 12.8V.

MTX amps used to come with a certificate of test that certifed the amp to output more power than what's published on package.

So this still posed the same question. Even if it is putting out 900w, is it in theory a better amp to run a sub or set of components than a JL that is only putting out 500w?

Is there any difference in the quality of power?
