12v accessory jack in cargo area not getting power

Mine has never worked since I bought my '99 T4R 10 years ago, and I am finally getting around to try to figure out why.

The fuse under the dash up front is good. The front 12v jack works. If I recall the last time I looked into this, the fuse under the hood was good, but I didn't test the relay (I would need to figure out how to test that). When I remove the plug from the rear jack, I am not getting 12v at the plug. I read about the fusible link in the back of the plug itself, but that's a moot point if I 12v isn't even getting to the jack.

Just wondering if anyone else has found and/or fixed this problem before.

Perhaps there is a common problem with one of the wires getting broken somewhere along the way, at a certain place?

It's not worth the effort for me to spend hours locating and checking the wires all the way from the front to the back, but if I can zero in to a specific area, it might become worth the time and effort.

Any ideas?

Haven't read of this as a Common problem.

So if you don't want to chase a loose connection, then I would suggest running a new power wire to the outlet - your choice where it comes from, much faster overall.

Luck and enjoy that runner. :cowboy:

Would this be one of those situations where it would be faster and simpler to just run your own 12v wire to the fuse block? Peace of mind knowing it's not going to short out and start a fire, that you've done it and it's modern wiring.

I have thought of doing that, but the thought of fishing a wire all the way up there gives me nightmares.

And if I were to tap into power from the general area (to keep from running 10+' of wire), I have no idea where I would find a wire back there that is either always hot, or hot while Accessory is energized.

Maybe I should just continue to live with it not working, as I have done for the last 10 years. Every once in a while, I get bored and look for something to do.

There's a fusable link on the 12v plug. It may be blown. I don't have a picture, but if you look at where the connector plugs in, there's a little black wire that goes between two of the prongs with a 90 degree bend. Could be that it is blown/broken.

Well, I'd open the right kick panel and see if the purple-black wire on Pin 11 of Plug IL1 is getting power and has continuity to the rear plug. Presumably, one of those will not exist. That wire is a straight shot from the kick panel under the carpet just inside the door to the right rear fender to the plug. It's not that hard to trace and/or replace. Pull the door sill plates and you can pull the carpet back a few inches. Should be right there.

Plug Il1 is a dark gray two row 10-pin plug. See page 43 of second attachment.

Thanks. If I get real bored, un-ass myself and get to poking around, I imagine I could find the source of the problem with that info. That might happen, before too long.
