12V Homelink/Sunroof Question

Question: Is there a switched 12V source available at the homelink or sunroof switches ? Just wondering for my Valentine, and I think I could tap in for an autodim mirror too.

I'm hoping someone has already done this, or can explain why I can't pick up switchable 12V at the homelink / sunroof controls

Give it a little more time, and I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can post a reply.

Just glancing at a wiring harness diagram, it looks like the moonroof control and the Homelink controls are simply inputs to a computer, so they probably don't have 12V available as expected. For sure, the moonroof motor is controlled by the computer (which is also in the headliner near the controls), so the moonroof switch doesn't directly supply the power.

I'd try looking for power behind the overhead lights instead of the switches.

I'm sure there is a 12V switched wire for the sunroof. Homelink and map lights are on all the time. It's been a while since I did my homelink install, but I believe there is a harness up to the console. One wire must be switched.

That's what I was thinking, there's probably a switched 12V up there somewhere.

Homelink is constant power

I have a factory installed homelink and it doesn't use a switched power source, it's on all the time. I can open my garage door even with the car off.

If I'm reading the schematic right, yes. Ground, 12v always hot, and 12v switched.

The 12v switched is tied to the 10A ECU-IG fuse. the 12v always hot is rated at 30A. I assume this means the moonroof ECU uses the 12v switched only as a signal to whether the key is on, and doesn't draw any significant power. I think that is true of almost everything attached to that 10A fuse.

Where is the moonroof ECU located and does anyone have a pdf of the wiring diagram for it, actually the whole circuit for the moonroof.

I tapped my V1 into the dome light wire in that fixture, which is always hot. It's fine, because it powers down after about 10 minutes of taking the key out. Haven't had a problem yet.

I plan to install my v1 to the auto dimming mirror plug. There was a thread here many months ago about it (search).

The rear view mirror plug has a switched +12v and a negative. All you need without any extra work!
