12voltguy rear window kit

The back window on my 88 4Runner was able to go down but not up with the key in the back and the switch in the front. While waiting to have it fixed at my local shop I pressed the window lock button to avoid the hassle of the window getting stuck down again. Anyways, I took it to my local shop and they got the window to work from the front switch both up and down but the repair was made while the lock button was down.... So now all functionality of that button is gone and it still will not go up with the key in the back. Long story short my question is this: Is the kit from 12voltguy worth it? Also, I am curious whether or not this would cause my rear window defroster to not work. Any input?

Oh yeah, electrical is not really something I am at all good at. So take that into consideration. Thanks.

I'm not trying to but into your post, but I'm hoping someone might be able to answer both our questions at the same time. I recently took my 93'runner in a little bit of mudd (not a lot at all) & when I was done, I tried to roll down the rear window & it would not go down. I tried it with the key, & it still didn't work. I can hear the motor when I press "Up" on the button, but not when I press "down" on it. All of my other windows are working fine. Does anyone know what the issue could be?

I know on the first gens there is a big group of wires that run along the bottom of the gate. If yours is similar you might have shorted something out in the muck along there. Then again if you were really splashing about you may have gotten crap into any number of places along the truck... I would first just try to clean out the regulator area in the back and make sure it is not just dirty.

I'll give that a try tomorrow. Thanks for the input. Hopefully someone can answer your question.

i recently did a write up on how to repair this issue, the key problem is caused by the switch inside of lock cylinder.

As far as the shop "fixing the window" i bet money they hacked it up if they bypassed the lock then they would have had to hack it up.

You will need to take pictures of what they did so i can guide you through the real fix.
99% of the time it is a fault in the tailgate ither the key switch or harness under the gate itself.

Can you point me in the direction of the writeup for the rear key fix? I am willing to live with not having the window lock button working but I really want to be able to operate my rear window from the tailgate.

It is of topic but where did you get those roof racks from i am trying to find a pair for my 91 4 runner
