135,000 too high to buy?

Found exactly what I've been looking for (finally). Great shape, all the features, BUT 135,000 miles! The good thing is that I'll save like $3500 for getting one with these instead of <90k miles.
So, my second question for the night...

Can I make this purchase (2004, 4x4, v8, 3rd row seats, excellent condition, leather) and feel confident that I won't regret getting something with 80,000 miles? Obviously no one can tell me how I will feel, but from your experience, is this a safe option for me, given that it is a Toyota and a 4runner at that. I have a '00 Tundra @ 211k miles and no problems thus far! So I am not too worried about the miles, but I just wanted to know if there is some secret to buying high mile vehicles, if it mathmatically is a financial waste or whatever.

Miles don't kill cars, people do.
 
I got my 2003 v8 4x4 with 100k miles. I paid $12k but it needed a timing belt. I love my T4R and would buy another with high miles in a heartbeat. Mine also came with records so I knew it was serviced by the dealer at 30, 60, and 90k.

Just make sure to have a trustworthy mechanic give it a thorough check if you're ready to pull the trigger.

I lucked out and got my '04 with 45k miles on it in February this year.

They're not always accurate. My old car was in an accident about two years before I ran a CarFax on it for the fun of it. It never listed that it was in an accident. The accident was reported to insurance--wasn't a cash/under the table settlement.
 
I've had issues with carfax myself. One was an odometer rollback that was discovered buy yet not listed on the report. Gotta be careful. On the other hand, when I purchased my 4runner, I spent the extra money on a carfax. It was one of those deals where a dealer was selling and the price seemed too good to be true. It had 123k miles, so depending on it's life that could make/break the deal. I ran the report, and it showed it as a one owner, with all maintenance performed at the Toyota dealer it was purchased from. Despite accident reports and such, it was worth it to me to find out it was so well maintained, and especially with it all done by the original dealer. So, take the report with a grain of salt, but I doubt I'll ever buy another vehicle without one (or something similar).
 
It can also depend on what KIND of miles. City? Hwy? Here in California, all high mile cars are going to be Hwy. I picked up my 05 runner with 80k on the clock, and if it did not show it , I would never believe it. All depends on the condition. You can tell if it has ben taken care of. I have no problem with a high milage car. Get the report, and drive it. You can feel how much life she has in her.

I have had my runner a month, and I have already put 4000 mile on it. ALL hwy. And feeling good the whole time!:guitar2:
 
Carfax reports may not be accurate but what's the percentage of cars not accurate? 10, 20, 50%? If i was to buy from a steelership, i could get those for free from them. But if i was to buy from private party, i'd rather lose and pay $30 now than $3000+ later on parts and labor to include inconveniences and headaches.

I'm not saying don't get a CarFax report. The more information you can have on hand the better. Just providing a word of caution that CarFax is not always accurate and I would not solely rely on it. For thinigs like it being in a major accident, a reputable body shop can identify those issues as well. They have their gurauntee, so it's that much better than not having one.
 
Nothing wrong with miles. It's all about condition.
Both my 03 4runners have 80k and 149k and they are in almost perfect condition for the years on them...NOT for the miles. Your right...you take care of them and they will last for 200k and more.
