14 limited's embarrassing chrome grill

Before I ask, I have scoured the internet looking for the answer to this if it's already posted somewhere. What are you limited owners doing about the massive chrome strip? Plastidip is out. My 14 is silver. Is having a body shop remove, strip and paint with body color something that's been done?

Just out of curiosity, if you think it's so embarrassing, why didn't you just get an SR5 or TE?

I think it might look kind of funky if you paint it body color, what about having just the center section of the chrome strip professionally painted black? Kind of like how the Mitsu Lancer EVOs are done up...

Yeah I usually HATE chrome, but it's not that bad in person especially on white vehicles. Both of mine have chrome accents, but they blend well.

If you hate it don't buy a limited.

In person, it looks great. Makes it look like a tough truck like the super duty pick ups that are very chrome heavy.

It's why I bought a '13. I don't like the new front or the new gauges. I also prefer the speed display in center, and the red illumination on all the controls, clock, etc) over the blue..

The matte silver color of the trail bumper or a light gunmetal color would tone down the shine. Color the grill chrome in black.

wanted safety connect and full time 4wd. I had 2010 and 2011 4runner limiteds and loved both of them but do 50,000+ miles per year, so go through vehicles. Just hate so much chrome compared to previous limiteds.

Thanks. Very helpful. (Note sarcasm) I took both of my previous limiteds off roading, and there is no other midsize suv on the market currently. If you want safety connect and full time 4wd, it's the only option.

True. I had an 09 x5 diesel when first came out. However, even diesel savings won't make up for the depreciation hit compared to 4runner. Oh, and I refuse to buy a grand cherokee with nothing but problems posted all over forums with electronics. Latest rumor is that Tundra in 2017 will have diesel, a credible rumor actually.

Porsche Cayenne Diesel is priced competitively, too, though depreciation hit will be high, but far less problems than before and great all-around ride.

Personally I think the LTDs look better than the Trails this time around. Still hoping someone does a successful 10-13 Trail conversion on a 14.

I think that it is safe to say the consensus is about 50/50 according to all of the 2014 threads and replies around here.

Although that it has that big bling of chrome I like the 14' LE's waaay better than the TE's and SR5's too. Some people seem to like that big ole blow hole and that is totally fine, me I bought a 13' just because of that and well I liked the black trim better than the color match. My opinion will most likely change when I see a nicely designed winch bumper for it though

This just gave me an idea. Anybody have off road lights mounted to 5th gen 4runner. Just wondering if mounting bracket and off road lights would be mounted too low if covering up the chrome bar.
