14k for a 3rd gen

Three weeks ago (right before I decided to put mine back together) I drove to Atlanta with $7k to buy a '00 Ltd w/120k miles, e-locker, etc. It turned out to have LOTS of minor (undisclosed/hidden) issues that made me walk away, but the guy was getting texts from people ready to pay full asking price sight unseen the whole time I was there. None of the issues were major problems, but it became a $5 k truck to me after seeing everything I'd need to repair once I bought it. Genuinely spotless specimens are getting harder to find. Now that I've fully committed to fixing mine I'm REALLY glad that I'm gonna have MY truck back.

sleepydad, I love that red guy ❤️[emoji16]

that bright red is my fav as well. I looked for a long time and never found a good rust free red one.

I have watched bring a trailer for years now. they have some cool stuff come up for sale. they do a nice job of sexing them up.

Too high...one just sold here in St. Louis in one day that I called on (albeit automatic). 2002 black limited for $5995, no wonder it sold it one day. I didn't think that undercarriage was all that pristine neither.

Wow! That means I can get at least 30K for my 2003 with 210k miles. :wof:
I've heard that used car prices are going up due to the interest rate hikes and the price increase of steel.

I may be getting a bit off topic here, but there seems to be another financial bubble building from central banks printing money for the last 10 years (same thing sending real estate prices to the moon in certain cities). We may be in for a crash. Not sure what this will do for prices for our rigs since people may want to buy used instead when they have no money...

that's high by any standard but good for the buyer and seller. I have a friend that bought a Husqvarna 701 super moto for 18,000 when the dealer price is 11,900 just because he had to have it. He is normal middle class guy but I am happy for him. may be he'll sell it to me at a decent price in a couple of years.
edit: it's a vitpilen 701

I predict that one won't last long!!! I think they may not realize what they could get for it.

These prices are only going to improve as more and more rust out or are totaled.

They are the ideal balance between simple DIY-ability and modern electronic convenience and they aren't making any more.

That little rascal raised his price since I last saw it lol. Went up from $9400 to $9900. Classy.

They are actually going for less than some 3rd gens now. I've seen a few V8 4th gens pop up for 4k. Very tempting, especially considering a 5th gen isn't really different underneath.

That price is ridiculous. If the buyer goes through and actually forks up the 14k I will be very surprised.
The paint is oxidized, the engine seems to idle a little high/uneven/noisy in the video but maybe it was just cold.
The suspension ball joints and bushings and shocks are all original and thus in need of replacement in the near future.
The timing belt was not done until 150k which makes me wonder about other maintenance and if oil changes were done on time.
It's not a bad car, but it is not a 14,000 dollar 4Runner.
I don't intend to be mean to the bidder and if he is going to buy the car I wish him all the best. ....but I did notice that he/she has bid on many auctions on BAT usually early on and on a wide variety of vehicles and never actually purchased any of the cars. This is the first auction he won. And it was a no reserve auction and he/she bid 14k as the FIRST and ONLY bid on the auction.
This seems very odd to me.
BAT is not a big company (I have been to their offices) and I question the amount of auction oversight they perform to monitor for disingenuous bidding...

Almost sounds like a shill bid.

I would never justify paying 14k for a chassis more than 90k, let alone the suspension not being replaced. I guess the demand for 5 speed 4WD's are still up there.

I found this on our local Craigslist...

1997 4Runner for 10.5k!!

I paid 11.3k for mine but I was in a unique situation and it's worth way more now.

That thing is hacked up. Flares have been pulled, lifted(and plenty of off roading I bet), crap in interior, etc. But hey, at least the PO did the timing belt in 2004. Smh. 3500 at best to me.

Edit: Did he just pull the carpet and bedline the floor? Ok, that’s a $1500 truck.

LOL I know it's not worth 5k personally. But just thought it was hilarious to see it after reading this thread. :)

I had to do a double take on the back carpet and the amount of stickers....sigh invest in goo-gone? :)
