15" wheels in front 16" in back

Only reason I can see for 16s in the back would be to increase the ride hight in the rear due to sagging springs.

Best answer - replace the springs, and put matching rims all around.

as long as the overall diameter is the same, it wont matter.

but, the best thing would be to get a matched set.

What he said, rims don't change ride height, tires do. Sounds like he didnt have a complete set of 15's or 16's and made what he had work. Not a legit setup for anything unless its a hot rod but then its 18's and 20's or similar.

Not normally for a 4WD vehicle.
The only way it could be used in 4WD would be if the tires on the 16" rims were sized to result in being the same rolling diameter as the tires on the 15" rims.
If the front and rear aren't the same overall diameter, the drive train will bind up in 4WD. In 2WD it won't make a difference.
It will be much simpler in the long run to get some 15" rims and tires the same size as your other 15's.

Yikes! I haven't engaged 4WD yet. Gonna hit up Craigslist for some 15" wheels then and pray my transfer case hasn't been destroyed yet. Thanks guys!

on pavement, absolutely.
in the dirt? its not all that bad...

had a buddy with an 85 4runner, 35" boggers, 5.29s in the rear, 4.10's in the front. he just didnt get around to swapping the front out, and we had a wheeling trip. he ran it that way. obviously the front was spinning MUCH faster than the rear. he ran 2wd as much as he could.
but, at the end of the day, nothing blew up, and he drove home like normal.

im NOT SUGGESTING anyone do that, i think it was pretty stupid on his part. just saying that a slight difference in tire size wont necessarily break things...

I went wheeling once with 4.10 in front and 4.30 in back. The understeer while I was in 4wd was so pushy I could barely stay on the trail. It was crazy.
