15k Service

The service guy at my dealer told me to change the transmission fluid and transfer case oil at 15k miles....is this true? or are they just tryin to sell me the service? I told him i did the service myself and i went through the checklist in the maintenance book, i dont remember reading that the tranny fluid and transfer oil had to be changed...if not when is the best time to change these...how many miles...thanks

I usually have a tranny flush done at 30K. At 15K they want to just drain it, no flush, which is a waste of time and money.

I drain and fill both diffs and the transfer case at 15K.

Call me old school, but I accelerate the maintenance on my vehicle more than the 'book' recommends.

Whatever my friendly Toyota dealer is using. It changes from Shell, Mobil to Texaco for the engine oil. Not sure about the gear oil.

The types of lube required for the various components should be in the back of your glovebox manual. I'll be switching mine to Mobil1 synthetic or Redline synthetic at 15K.
