15K SYN oil. Should I trust this stuff? @7Kmiles in & considering an oilchange.

That is a tough one, but I have a very smart engineer friend who has been running mobil 1 extended for awhile and changes his oil 1 a year.
He is a smart fellow, works with all manner of mechanical systems; and if he believes it, then I do. And to be honest, in today's law suit society large companies are very nervous to promise what they can't deliver. Mobil 1 isn't some fly by night, who cares, company that will sell you the world to take your money.
My bet is, yes, that oil continues to function as a lubricant at 15k miles. As to whether you want to.. who knows. There is also the issue of combustion by product and whether the filter can last that long.

another oil thread?
Why wouldn't you? I run the stuff in my 07 civic and change the oil when the oil indicator (%) tells me to. Lately, b/c of mostly highway miles, I've been changing the oil at about 10-11K miles. Been doing this since new. I'm at 108K miles now and engine is clean/smooth and giving me 38-40mpg.
BUT, if you insist, change it, ship it to get an oil analysis. Only THEN will it tell you how your motor is doing. Don't judge the oil based on color (like many do). You can run 5W-20 (Mobile1), that is what I do. I don't run the "extended version", just the "regular" one. I'm thinking of doing 0W-20, however this weight oil isn't on the "recommended" list of oils Toyota calls for our 4Runners. (can't find the link right now)

Can the oil last 15k....MAYBE? But are you trying to get the most out the oil??? Or are you trying to get the most life out of the engine?
If you vehicle is under warranty...then extending the oil change beyond the manufacturers recommended oil change limit can void your engine warranty. So if you're going to do this then at least wait until the warranty is up.
90% of all new vehicle buyers don't keep their vehicles past the 150k mile mark. If you're one of them..then a 15k oil change interval probably is going to be OK. But I've yet to hear of anyone who's kept their vehicles over 300k miles (like I do) that have used the 15k oil change interval. Doing an oil change every 5k miles as recommended by Toyota I know for a fact will take my 4runner to over 300k miles. I've done it 4 previous owned vehicles using that oil change interval. Will the 15k interval take me there???? Maybe??? But I'm not going to take the chance. Any money I saved by going to a 15k interval will be lost if I have to buy a new vehicle at 200k miles instead of 300k miles.
