Tacoma final assembly is in both Texas and Baja California, Mexico. There is a myriad of issues that can cause AT fluid fill issues. The transmissions may have come under filled from the supplier. The data about fill may have been NG from the vendor. The final assembly plant usually only adds a certain amount to top off the unit. It could have had nothing to do with the final assembly plant.

Spent an entire day at the Chicago auto show looking feeling the tacomas. Besides the feeling of ooh it's shiny and new I don't see how the new Tacoma is better then the 4Runner at all. Same shit different wrapping for a Tacoma even with the new engine/trans combo. I bet u only see mpg difference if he Tacoma had a tailwind to boost up its highway mpg. At least that's how it is with the colorados. Toyota packaging is starting to lack from what other many factors are offering. Simple things like you would have to get the limited models for the same creature comforts as a base Colorado or hell even the new Ridgeline. I guess that's how Toyota likes to do it sand baggin all the time. Other then that I think it just comes back to do I need/want a truck vs "insert body type" I will say been eyeing the hell out of the Lexus LX570 maybe I just miss the power of a true v8 lol

All 3 of my Toyota's were built in Japan; not a coincidence. But I think if I REALLY wanted a Taco I would get one.....after 2 or 3 years of production.

I peruse that forum briefly every morning because I've always loved Tacoma's (owned 3) and was considering even trading my 4Runner in on a new one.(Till I regained my sanity). But everyday it's something new wrong with those trucks. Yes it's a new model year, but drive train issues, diff issues, tranny issues, non starting issues, all this just reeks of poor QC IMO. Really puts a black eye on Toyota's good reliability name. True tons of people buy them, deal with it and never rant about it on a forum. But we are forum people and like to read about real user experiences. I've only been on this forum since Buying my 2012 and I must say I hardly ever hear about issues with them. I'm thinking being made in Japan is a good thing and they seem to have a better work ethic perhaps, just a guess. Better QC probably at least.

Yes I bought a brand new 14 Tacoma pre runner when it came out and a month or 2 later the thing would do some weird stuff randomly when starting it. I only noticed it on hot days but it could have just been coincidental. Anyways I would go to start it and the thing wouldn't start. Crank crank crank nothing, crank crank crack nothing and finally after 2 or 3 tries it would start. Go for a a couple weeks and then do it again randomly. Had the dealer check it out and was fine. It only Happened a few times but still a brand new truck shouldn't do that. Anyways it did hold its value tho! Shoot I bought it for 28 out the door owed 19 when I traded it in and they gave me 24k for it so I made 5k on it. Went towards my new 4Runner pro and I'm lovin it. Way better than a taco! If you need a truck then it's fine but man these 4runners are nice!

I drove a 2016 Tacoma last month when I was shopping for 4R. I drove Tacoma 4x4 TRD Off Road and 4R back to back. Tacoma felt underpowered. I like the look of the new Tacoma. Tacoma was 40k. I saw a Inferno Tundra with more equipment than Tacoma and it was 42k with V8. If I needed a truck I would get the Tundra. If you don't need a truck get the 4R, I did.
I know the Tacoma has a loyal following and holds it's value but the new Tacoma TRD Off Road is priced so close to Tundra $$ I think it warrants considering Tundra and you get V8.

I have had two 4runners and by far I love them but what perks does the tacoma have? There just a little more expensive for me
A manual transmission.... and the Off-Road 4x4 can be had for $31k vs $36k for a TE.

Yeah good luck with that, count on spending the same as a 4Runner. Dealers are taking little if not anything off of MSRP on the Tacomas especially the TRD editions

What about a Taco with camper shell? A DCSB Taco with topper has considerably more cargo space than the T4R and the DCLB can fit the entire 4Runner interior in the bed!

I had a 2014 TRD Off Road 4x4 for 2 years. Loved it but my new 2016 4Runer is 100X's better for me and my family. Way more space in the 2nd row and it drives SOOOOOO much better down the road. It is so nice being able to have items secured in the back, I love it.

We have a 2016 with the trd offroad package. 6 speed manual is like butter. That said we're selling it to get back into a 4runner. My brother and I took a 6 day road trip in it and while it performed great we both really want to be back in the 4runner. So many little things you wouldn't pick up on during a test drive became apparent. Things such as seat height, small cupholders, certain button placements etc. biggest thing is the overall interior layout and construction of the 4runner is vastly superior, making for a much more comfortable and functional experience. Now if we needed a pickup I wouldn't hesitate for the taco, it is fantastic. But I don't, so given the choice between a camper shell on the taco or a 4runner, 4runner wins.
If anyone in the bay area wants a taco let me know, only 5k miles.

I've never owned one nor a Toyota for that matter. I've owned trucks my entire life but have recently found that an SUV will suit my needs (I've always had a topper on my trucks).
Looking at SUV's the 4Runner won me over because it's still a body on frame but not a full size (I.e. tahoe). I accelerated my purchase time because I want the 4.0 w/5 speed. MPG mean very little to me and the gains aren't worth going to the 3.5 w/6 speed.
Anyways, I do find it funny comparing and arguing about a truck vs an SUV. If you have a need for a truck the Taco is better, if an SUV the 4Runner fits your needs. It's all perspective.
