'16 Trail Rims vs '17 TRD Off-Road Premium Rims

Hello

Just tying to get a quick confirmation before I buy. I have a '17 TRD Off-road Premium coming in and what to get a alloy rim for the spare tire.

I have a line on a '16 Trail rim, but no one can confirm if it will match my '17. It would be a lot easier if I had the truck but I don't. The pics on the net are so-so at best.

I'm I good to get the rim and have it match my '17?????

The wheels are identical with the exception of the '17's have the black accents in the inner parts of the wheel. I posted a comparison...

Oh ya .... I see the difference now. That sucks. The price was spot on. Oh well. I'm sure something will come up as more '17s get out there.

Looks like they're trying to increase continuity of look across the trd off road line, the tacoma's have that gloss black painted accents as well.

Since the difference is minor (some black accents) are you sure you want to pass up a good deal. This is for a spare and accents won't matter when the wheel is under your truck or when its mounted and moving.

I am planning a 5 wheel rotation. I don't drive a lot of miles during the winter and I don't even have the 4Runner yet. I have some time to find the rim.

Overall I think I'll just wait for the matching rim from a '17.

Just a heads up, there's no TPMS in the Trail spare. I do 5 tire rotations on the Jeep but I dont think its worth it. Will rotate 4 again on the 4R.

Pardon my ignorance but what's the point of this? I can understand spread loading wear and tear to five tires instead of four gets more use out of the tires but it seems like a PITA. What am I missing?

Some AWD or Full Time 4x4 systems can in theory be sensitive to tire size. Our '15 Limited has a matching spare and its included in the factory rotation. Granted I don't do the factory rotation. I use the method in the link below. It gives more even wear. The concern is if you have to use the spare and its a different size that difference and extend use could harm the drive train. A lot of this is theory and its not just BS. Does it happen in reality ... meh ... I don't care.

If I can I like a 5 wheel rotation (if possible) every 5k miles. It keeps the tires evenly worn and using the 5th wheel means the tires last longer. They still only last for x number of miles per tire, but because one tire gets a 'rest' you end up increasing the overall milage by about 20% give or take.

The down side is you have to buy 5 tires. the up side is do it every 60k instead of 40k. Really thats wash.

I like the fact the it forces me to inspect and use the spare tire. I know its always in good working order because it was used recently.

It really call comes down to personal preference. I've done it for years on my Jeep and it works for me. There is no right or wrong answer.

The sensors arent bad ($40-50). I assume the tpms brain is the same as the Limited and can handle the 5th, but not sure really. I imagine someone else here has tried it.

i have 4 of the trd off road wheels I am trying to sell (with black accent). Definitely open to best offer. They have 250 miles on them perfectly new, just a little dirty from the 250 miles I put on them. I bought a set of the trd pros, do not need 2 sets of wheels.
