I've got a set of new tires (265/75R16) and I'm looking for a set of rims, I was thinking the Cragar Soft8s (Cragar 3977760 - Cragar Soft 8 Black Wheels - Overview - SummitRacing.com) would fit fine with a backspacing of 4 inches but I've been told it won't clear my brakes. Thoughts on this?? I have a 98 SR5. What are my options? Go stock rims? Get spacers and if so do the spidertrax spacers extend the lug bolts?? Thanks, I've done a bit of reading and I'm getting really P offed, it doesn't seem like there are a lot of after market options for these tires with out using spacers???

just replaced calipers and rotors, all stock. I'm not worried about the UCA as much as I'm worried about the brakes rubbing, don't want to order the rims only to find out I need to order spacers, for now this is my daily driver and I'm grounded until I fix this. I'm leaning towards some alloy 16x7 4Runner rims.
 
soft 8's are on my short list too. there are some running them here. search "soft 8's" and some of their rigs will pop up as results and you can check out their builds.
 
I see people using them, I'm just not getting the info on the spacers, I'd like to avoid spacers if possible, or now what thickness to order if I go that route.
 
Quicksilvr has Soft 8s like I do. His wheels clear his stock calipers without spacers. Mine wouldn't fit when when I had stock calipers and of course they didn't fit when I did my 231mm Tundra brakes either. It seems there is some variance with the Soft 8s, but I definitely would not assume they will fit. I did assume and then I found out I had to use spacers.

Your spacers options are:
The cheap $6 "slip-on" .25" spacers from wheelersoffroad.com. I think these would be enough, but I can't guarantee since I've never used them. If you need more than .25", the next option is 1" or thicker (unless you replace your stock wheel studs with longer ones). If you get 1" or thicker spacers, the spacers bolt on to your existing stock lugs, then they have their own lugs on the spacer to attach the wheel to.
 
If I was you I would just try to find some LC wheels or powdercoat your current wheels and if you dont like it then u can get the soft 8 then turn around and sell your powdercoatd wheels. I have the stock 5 spoke and LC wheels. when its time for new tires im changing over to the LC wheels and having them powdercoated black comes out cheaper than getting wheels from anywhere else just a thought but goodluck with your decision:D
 
I have **** Cepek DC-2 rims and didn't have the original alloy rims, but just got back from procuring a set of 69356 OEMs, so problem is solved, no spacers needed now. I'll get them powder coated flat black and will post pictures. I've got a Toytec ultimate lift on its way and I've got to take off the running boards too before I post. Much of the front end has already been replaced or re-worked with new bushings.

Thanks for everyone who helped, I was under a bit of a time crunch since this is my daily driver as well as my hunting rig.
 
Yep, somehow my set of Crager soft 8's fits just fine with my stock front brakes. It's damn close, but it clears. With how close my clearance is, I would always assume you they WON'T clear, and just get some .25" generic spacers if you want to run them.


I'm thinking about going back to my 5-star's, if I can get them back from my sister, lol. I'd like to powdercoat them gunmetal, and put my 285 A/T's on them.
