160k. Lots of questions..

So i purchased my runner about 40k ago. Havent had the first problem. It had detailed service records and one owner. Ive been running Mobil oil/filter and changing every 8-10k miles. Had the plugs changed about 10k ago. I have never had the transmission checked or drain/filled. Is this something i should have done soon, possibly on my next oil change in 2k miles? What color "should" the fluid be? I think mine is red. I have been hearing a clunk when coasting down hills and rarely when i start off. Its always happened on and off. Should i have this checked out? The timing belt was changed at 110k.

Im on a budget so i would like to have important things done before they become a problem and possibly cost me even more money. Im looking for a check-list maybe to show my mechanic on things to check out.

Another thing. Im running 33x12.5 BFG MT tires. Im going to need new tires soon. Again on a budget and cant really shell out 1k for more BFG`s. Whats a good tire a bit on the cheaper side?

Im really leaning to treadwrights. For half the price of a set of BFG`s i cant find any reason not to save the money. Every where i look has positive reviews. A tire question for you.

My current tires say 33x12.5 on the sidewall. Most tire sites have tire sizes like 265/75R16. What am i looking for? I want to keep my rims and same tire size. Thanks
 
yep, those are the ones.

And yes, your trans fluid should be red and clear like wine. If it's never been changed I would do a couple drain and fills.

Are you changing the engine oil every 8-10k miles? You should change the oil AT LEAST every 5,000 miles as per Toyota. On older vehicles which yours is, it might be a good idea to change it every 4,000.

Transmission oil should be red. I would change it every 40,000 miles to avoid costly repairs.

Engine oil should be change at lest every 6,000 miles to ensure engine long life

Also remember to have the drive shaft U-joint lubed every oil change or at lest every other oil change

Timing belt/ water pump should be replaced every 90,000 miles
 
Treadwright no longer makes tires for 15" rims. Edge to Edge my rims are 16" but i have 15" tires on so im assuming i need to look else where. Any recomendations?

Guy at work is selling a used set of 31" BFG AT`s @ 100 ea but i dont really wanna lose 2 inches of height.

Your rims are 16's but your tires are for 15's? :shrug:

I thought when you go from 33's to 31's it's only 1" of height diff. Someone will chime in....
 
that first craigslist post for $12k is really funney. it has a ridiculous lift and claims to have never been off road, lol.

btw in response to OP's first post, change your radiator out or add a trans cooler ASAP. search for pink milkshake.

I do Castrol full syn at 6500 OCI and NAPA Gold (Wix) filters. I've sent it off to Blackstone twice for UOA and both times they said I could go longer. But that's as far as I will push it. I also did my TB and WP at 120K and I think that is totally reasonable. I did all moving parts that touch the TB when I did it, however.

No comment on the tranny from me as I have never owned a slushbox.
