17" rims on 3rd Gen and Stopping Distance?

I have a 99 highlander edition I bought a year ago. It's got 150K on it and going strong. Was thinking about a few upgrades, tranny cooler, etc.

Thinking about buying a set of 17" trd rims and tires that came from a 2010 Tacoma. With the same tire size 265x70, will the extra mass in the rim lengthen stopping distance. Has anyone driving 17s on a 3rd Gen noticed any negative effects on handling?

I have 17's on mine, but i also have a lift and the tires are 285/70/17 which are a little bigger then the stock size ones. From my experiance with my accord which I went from the stock 15's to 18's it was a night and day difference in handling. You might also lose a tad in gas milaege, and by that maybe a few miles less per tank only. Replacement tires will cost more vs a 16 or 15 inch wheel which i haven't figured out why because "less" tire/rubber is actually needed to make them in an equivalent size.

Do the tundra brake upgrade..... 231mm rotors and 13WL calipers.

Thats like a half inch difference, i doubt you will notice a change.

Mine came with 15"s so 17's was a big difference.

Hence why I have tundra brakes now totally worth it

285s are a big enough jump from 265s. I can see why the handling would change. I'm thinking about staying with 265/70s on a 17 inch rim.
As for the tundra upgrade, I don't want to start anything, but from what I've read the upgrade doesn't add stopping power, it just uses a fatter disk that is less prone to warping from towing. I'd be interested in hearing anyone's direct experience with the tundra upgrade and stopping distances.

My stopping distance with the 17's and stock brakes from a 15" wheel bearing 4Runner was awful. The Tundra brakes made my stopping not only better, but smoother and with no warping. I used to have to push on the brake so hard (under normal slowing down conditions, not emergency stops) that my brakes locked up sometimes. Now, it brakes just fine. It helps a LOT.
