17" Stock Alloys off a 4th Gen

Has anyone painted theirs and if so do you have pics?

I picked up a set of 4 (pretty cheap) and they were pretty scratched up (mostly shallow scratches however) and i was wondering if it would be easier just to prime em, and paint em rather then trying to sand out the scratches and NOT paint them.

I've seen lots of the 3 spokes and 5 spokes off a 3rd gen painted, but never a 4th gen stock 17's. So pics would be awesome!

It will be easier to just prime and paint them, but it's not going to come out nearly as good. Take your time and sand them right. The end results will be well worth it. Plus the paint will bond to the surface that much better.

I was going to try to sand the scratches out of them. I've heard of people doing it with super high grit sand paper and water. If i paint them, them im definitely going to sand them down. I just want to see what they look like painted, say black.

Ahhh. Your original post looks like you were asking if it was easier to not sand them at all.

Yeah i read back, and i changed it thanks!

They look so clean though the normal alloy color, i dont really want them painted, but the scratches have to be fixed before i put them on. Idk, i like the 4th gen alloys alot on 3rd gens.

Haha but ya all I did was scratch them up with sand paper then use a finishing sand paper to smooth them. Rinse them with water, let them dry, wipe down with windex, let them dry again and then start painting. Did about 5 coats of paint then about 3-4 coats of clear. Make sure you wait atleast 45 minutes before you clear coat. I would have done more clear if I could go back and do it over again. Good luck!

Thanks guys! I think imma paint em black and see what happens. what type of paint did you use? Just rattlecan?

Rattle can dupli-color wheel paint, also used their clear coat.

Make sure you also buy one of those cheap plastic gun paint sprayers, once you do it you will realize how easy of a job it really is.

if you put enough coats of plasti dip they wont come off. dipped the wheels on my Audi and it held up to my wife hitting a damn curb with the wheels. did the wheels on my Chevy truck too and they held up to mild off road abuse

Good to know they'll hold up. Id rather sell the rims, but theyre scratched up pretty good (not road rash but the previous owner scrubbed em with a brillo pad :bash: ) and idt ill be able to sell em. Anyone any good with photoshop? Lol

I did end up painting my own 17's. Let me know what you think of how they come out. I need to touch up the edges with a paintbrush but overall i think they look good.
