17 XD addicts question

I have seen that most people with the xd addicts are using the ones with a -12 offset, but does anyone know if the 18 offset will work on our trucks? I got a set from a guy who had them on his older tundra but i didnt know enough about offsets when i got them a week ago. i havent put them on yet because i started reading about backspacing and offsets and realized that i didnt have the -12. I have a 3" toytec lift and want to go to a 285/70/17. Will I have tons of rubbing issues because of the 18 offset? Thank you in advance to anyone that could help me out.

From my understandings, you should be fine! Stock wheels are +30 offset, -12 offset would be like having spidertraxx or other spacers on! 18mm offset will be like you having 1/4 inch spacers or so! So chance are with 18mm you would have less rubbing that with -12! However I wouldn't think you will have any with the lift!

So those wheels are 9" wide? Then a +18 offset is going to give you 5.75" of backspacing. That's more than stock, which means you're going to rub the upper a-arm balljoint area really bad.

I measured my stock wheels at 5.5" backspacing. So in theory, 5.0" is what you really want...but 4.75" or so would work well also. But the 17x9 aftermarket wheels with -12 offset are going to be 4.5" backspacing and then you may have to start trimming body panels. Trimming body panels can be done...moving the ball joint can't.

Yes they are 9" wide. So it sounds like the backspacing is the issue more than the offset? Would these work on a stock tire on a stock 4runner or they just won't fit our trucks all together? Thanks for all the info for you guys, I'm learning a lot from you guys.

If you already have them, just test fit one and snap some pictures of the clearances.

If they do have indeed a higher offset than factory, you may be able to get away with some wheel spacers to give you the clearance you need.

That was my next question, if you run spacers could they work? Thanks for the info, I'll check on the clearance.

I think that with a 9" wheel plus spacers you will clear the ball joints fine...but then you're going to rub terribly bad on the fenders when steering.

Honestly, a lot of people will disagree with me but I think 9" wheels are overkill for 99% of the people on this forum. 285/70s only have about 9" of tread width. In theory you want a 8" wide wheel. The factory 7.5" wide wheel works great too. 9" wide wheels are really getting out there and that's what causes the fitment issues.

9" wide wheels are perfectly fine.

Try the spacers and see where you sit with inner lip clearance to the spindle.

Unless others have tried the same combo, no one can tell you better than trying it yourself.

With the higher than stock back spacing he may be able to get away with just some spacers to clear the upper ball joints and be good.

A little trimming to the fender molding and inner liners isn't the end of the world if needed.
