17x8.5 on 265s?

anyone have pics of 265/70/17's on an 8.5 in wide wheel?

looking at a set of new wheels but wanted to swap my newer tires over but wanted to make sure they dont look funny.

This is my old 4th gen with 17x9 Level 8 MK6’s with 265/70/17 Falken AT3’s. Next year I am planning to do something similar with my current 5th gen.

Not generally a huge fan of 4th gens, but that looks nicccccce!

Also, I would have thought a 265 would have look stretched on a 9" wide wheels, but from that angle it looks fine. I had looked at some wheels on DTD, but was turned off after seeing they were only available in 9". I tend to like a narrower wheel for the sidewall bulge, on my old ZJ I ran 31x10.50's on a 7" wide, and on my K10 I had 35x12.50's on a 8" wide.

It looks good on yours though, and probably handles a little better.

As far as 265’s go, there are only a few that show a 7” to 9” wheel width as being acceptable. Most of them are 7” to 8.5”, especially the LT tires. If you have the option, stay with an 8.5” or less wheel to keep your tire options open for the future.

Very slight rubbing. I have not gone in with heat gun yet.
I did get black lug nuts since this pic though and got rid of the bug guard.

I am looking to do same size wheels. I have a 1" front level, do you think that would avoid the rub?

For those running this exact setup, 17x8.5 on 265's, I'm curious to know what offset would get you flush with the fender. 0 offset or would you have to go -10 or similar? Thanks!

I have 9” wide wheels with -6 offset and they’re perfectly flush with the fender. 8.5” wheels would need to be -12 offset to be the exact same as far as I’ve figured out.

Depends on whether he wants the tire sidewall or the edge of the rim to be flush with the fender, yes? If the tire, then the rim width doesn’t matter as long as we can assume the sidewall stays in roughly the same spot at wheel width changes.

Good point, I’m definitely talking about the tire sidewall rather than the wheel itself being flush. Thanks for pointing that out.
