1984 4Runner for $100 needs engine

Well I have a 1997 4Runner LimitedS with Elocker as my daily driver. It has 3 inch suspension and 2 inch body lift. I wanted to do some more stuff to it to make a capable trail rig but being that it is my daily driver it will stay the way it is. So I went on Craigslist and found a 1984 4Runner with a spent motor. I traded my 2000 Scrambler Polaris with carb issues not running plus a $100 for it. I wanted a 4Runner that had the solid axle plus its the first year. Tranny is in good shape, body has rear fender rust. I am excited. So my first question is where is a good place to find a replacement 22R motor for it? Or would it be easier to rebuild it?

Depends on what is wrong with the motor. I would throw some jumpers on it and see if you can get it to fire to get a better idea.

You can get crate motors or long blocks from lots of places, but if you're going to go to the effort to pull and replace a block anyway, I'd look into a motor swap. Or at least go to a 22RE and gain a couple horse that way.

Before you go to all that trouble though, I agree with USE911 that you should make sure you need to. What's wrong with the motor you've already got?
