Is my vehicle's AC based on r12 or 134a?

R-12 is what it came with. If it has been retrofitted you should see a sticker in the engine bay and the R-12 hose and charging diagram should be scratched out or removed from the hood. Also look at the valves on the AC Compressor lines. R-12 would have small valves like a tire valve and R-134 would have larger valves like a air quick connect.
