1987 4Runner "The Turd"

Picked this 1987 up last Saturday and started ripping it apart. Paid $2100 for her in Boulder, Colorado. 186k on the ticker.

Took her to get new wipers immediately after.

Last week I ripped out all the seats and carpet. Put the seats back in until I can find replacements.
Drove it to work and it was overheating so I changed the Oil, trans fluid and flushed the radiator. Also the rear u-joint and driveshaft where shot. Found a replacement and put it back in good as new.

Realized the tires where different size front to rear so I found a good deal on some new tires and rims from a 5th gen.

As she sits as I write this new build. Trying to get better at documenting all the projects.

As she sits as I write this new build. Trying to get better at documenting all the projects.

Good price if in good running condition. I paid $2700 for mine- but she's a stick shift.

Looks like the rear sag has been fixed. Stock Springs? Zuk? or blocks?

Just stock springs that I know of. Front is about 2in lower. SaS and a 4.7

You cant complain about a 1st gen IFS for under 3 grand with that sort of body, and running no problem. Fixed the overheating? Golden.

I believe I have fixed it. My engine temp gauge isn't working correctly I've taken it out and checked it. No loose copper wire. I guess next stop it the sending unit. Also tackling the shifter. O/d is busted. Anyone have any diagrams for an automatic shifter with O/d

Did you have problems with the center bore on the rear axle? My center bore is roughly 4 1/16" and same on the drums doesnt sit right on the back..i also have 5th gen rims

Previous owner destroyed the u joint. The yolk opening was Oblong

sorry i wasnt clear...i meant did you have problems mounting the 5th gen rims on the rear axle because of the hub/lip on the brake drums interfering with the center bore on the rims

Sorry I misread that. No I didn't have any issues. Mounted right up.
