1988 4runner

So about a month ago I picked up an 88 4runner with the 22re motor. I have a few oil leaks that are pretty substantial. This is my first project car and I'm going to be teaching myself about the motor along the way with the help of you guys. My question is this: with the 22re motor, where should I start looking for the leak? Is there anything typical about these motors that I should be aware of? Any help would be greatly appreciated to get started on this.

Sorry I'm a newbie not only to this forum but to cars in general. I know there is a wealth of knowledge on this site so I thought I'd start here! Thanks!

headgasket is one

I figured that would be one of the problems. Not sure the last time it was done. Anything else I should try? I looked under the motor today and everything is just caked with oil. Maybe I should hose it all down first before I start anything to see where the oil is accumulating. Thanks for the help so far!

Pressure wash the underside at a DIY carwash. Then keep track of where the drips are running from.

For an oil leak the valve cover gasket would be more likely than the head gasket.
Also oil pan and front main seal.
