i have just bought a 1990 4runner from the original owner and it has high miles but all of the rest is basically in show room condition with EVERY service record its ever had with it. i would like to know how many miles could i expect to get out of this truck and when it gets too high in miles would i be better off rebuilding this motor or getting one out of the junk yard out of a newer 4 runner? do they make kits like the do for chevy small blocks to increase the hp for this motor i have. or would i be better off building a chevy small block for it and droping that in? with i have to do alot of mods if i go the small block route? thanks for ur help and this forum is great

If you want increased power, I would look at the 3.4 swap. It seems like it pretty much bolts in, just some wiring needed. I would search here or google 3.4 swap.

WHat motor do you have? Both the v6 and the 22re are very reliable motors, where 200k is easy to come by. These are not high horse power truck, but they will run forever.

i have the v6 3.0 motor and it has about 198,000..i bought it from the original owner and i have a huge stack of reciepts from everything that he has ever done to it..it was only serviced and worked on at the toyota dealer..the motor runs really good but being realistic it has high miles..the truck looks like it came off the showroom floor and i am getting ready to put a lift and tires on it this week..i know the motor will need to be rebuilt later and is it possible to put a chevy small block in it..do they make a conversion kit for it? thanks for your help

i had over 300k on my engine and it was still kickin like a mule when i rebuilt it. the only reason i rebuilt it is because i forgot to refill the antifreeze after a flush and warped the heads... my fault, not the trucks lol. they are not fast trucks, but minus the headgasket on the drivers side they are bullet proof engine.
