Hi, i just recently drove my 1990 4Runner with a sunroof that hasn't been opened much. I opened it and it worked, but when i went to close it, it wouldnt close, i mean there is no noise whatsoever. The motor for opening can be heard, but when i press the close button, no a budge, not a sound, its just open, i really want to get it closed. What can i do to close it and what could be wrong with it. Im thinking maybe a dead connection to the close button because the motor seems to work when it opens. Can it be manually shut, or can i repair it myself, because taking it to a dealer im thinking will cost a lot to fix, and i dont wanna pay 1000 bucks. Can anyone give me an estimate on what it would cost to have it manually closed by a dealer ? If anyone could help that would be great. Thx!

My guess would be the switch... And don't take it to a dealer, unless you want to because you could do this yourself. Get a Haynes manual to get a wiring diagram or try to find one on line.
Any-how, pop your switch out and check the contacts in the switch. I know with alot of toyota's switches around this time, the contacts in the switch would get some oxidizing build up on them, i.e. power window switches, so the window will go down and not up. Take some sandpaper and clean off the contacts, and put it back together and it should work. If not, using the wire diagram, look to see what 2 wires you need to close the moon roof, and use a paperclip or something to jump the 2 wires together from the back side of the connection that goes into your switch, that will close the moon roof.
by the way, after taking the switch out, you'll probably have to take the switch apart to get to the contacts, and more than likely you'll see where it kinda snaps together. Just take it apart their, and kinda be careful because you got a couple tiny springs in their that could go flying when you open it.
