I have a 1990 4runner and have an issue with the 4 wheel drive. During the summer after the vehicle has ran for 15 minutes or so the 4 wheel drive would try and kick in while driving down the road. You can hear a noise coming from front drive line like it was trying to engage, almost like a humming noise and vibration, then when I would slow down to say 5 mph, you can hear a big popping noise like it had finally engaged. This would happen when in 2 wheel drive. When it started making that noise I can shift into 4 wheel drive and it goes away. This is the biggest problem I have, there are tons of little things too, but heck it has about 275k miles.
