1990 random code 41?

My 90 4Runner 3VZE has a random engine light coming on that checks as code 41. When the light comes on it will not downshift and feels like it has lost power. The TPS was changed around six months ago. The connector has continuity. The engine light comes on and then goes off when you stop at a light. It drove on the freeway for 68 miles before the light came on and then no power unless you manually downshifted. Sometimes it comes on after a few miles. My mechanic couldn't reproduce the engine light but confirmed the code 41. Runs great when the light is off.

Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear. You might check the integrity of the harness coming off the TPS, and the grounds around the engine bay. These trucks are getting old and the harnesses, unfortunately are quite brittle and sensitive to movement. We had intermittent P/W issues, that I finally traced down to a break in the wiring harness at the driver's door pinch/pivot point. Best of luck with it.
