1990 srs motor upgrade

I have a 1990 SRS and i want to know if i can put a better motor in it without havingto change to much or the running gear. I was hoping for something with better fuel economy and possibly a bit more grunt. I am not having much luch searching on here and am not very good with technical knowledge for cars. so any shove in the right direction is very much welcome.

yotatech.com has a full thread on the swap and things that you mgiht run into.

I hear its best to find a donor 4runner/hilux surf/hilux 3rd gen (96-2002? - with the 3.4) that has been written off (preferably rear ended) then you should have all the parts you need to do the whole swap.

That depends on what motor you have now.
If you have a 3.0 V6, a 3.4 V6 swap is a good option.
If you have a 4 cyl, a 3.4 swap is a lot more work. A 2.7 might be a better choice.

being in Austrailia, you should be able to find a good diesel engine, that will def. give you more grunt
