I have a '90 T4R automatic ,, The transmission will not kick into O/D when starting out in the morning after warming it up for about 10min. After driving it for a few mins. it runs ok. I got the check eng. light and pulled codes 42 and 61 looked it up and it's a defective No. 1 and 2 speed sensor, severed wire harness or short circuit. Has anyone had the same issue? need some help with thjis thanks!!

Your thermostat might be stuck open. This will make the truck take forever to warm up. The O/D will not work until the motor reaches its normal operating temperature.

I can't comment about the check engine light or the error codes. Might be a separate issue *shrug*. Good luck.

(all based on 1987 22RE/auto tech and locations)
your speed sensor is a whirly gig inside your transfer case. It has a one wire (red wire) sending unit, cant remember which side(prob driver side). in case you wanna check the wire. It plugs into one of the three plugs located near your starter (22RE)

Good luck
