1992 4runner Brake trouble

Hey there fellow runners... I'm new to the community for a specific reason (brakes!), but look forward to digging in more and getting more involved...

About the issue... I believe I have a rotor problem. Pressing the brake at normal speeds, the brakes shake, or maybe its just the pedal. It increases in intensity as speed increases.

Are we pretty confident its a rotor problem?

I want to do the job myself with a couple buddies, so where would you guys suggest I go for a step-by-step? Any pictures to help?

Also, buying the rotors, ideas for which/where to purchase?

Anything I didn't think of? Appreciate all your help guys!

Likely warped rotors. Either machine or replace.

Do the 2nd gens have the same Front-Disc/Rear-Drum configuration? I have a shake in my brakes, and I'm positive that it's from the crap job I did replacing my brake shoes and probably bad drums in the back.

Grey runners unite!

Dont cheap out,buy quality parts. You should be able to do it yourself. All the information is here.

I can tell you what not to buy. My truck came with a receipt for new, but cheap, Napa rotors bought in Nov. 2009. I think they were about $25 a piece. In April 2011, I replaced them with PowerStop rotors that were about 100 a pop. I think you get what you pay for.

Go to whatever your local parts store is, and as long as you dont buy the bottom of the barrel parts youll be fine. Download the factory service manual (in the sticky at the top of the forum) and it will tell you how to change pretty much everything.

But just know, you have to take the whole hub assembly off.

I replaced mine with AutoZone rotors, around $26. I spent a few dollars on pads though. Take them down and have them spec'd first. They may just need to be turned. That's around $12 a rotor.....

And yes, your symptoms sound like bad rotors. Not a hard job to do.

Good luck

Yeah, I got mine for like $15 online, but none of the local places (even dealerships) had the tool readily available.
