1992 4Runner question

I recently bought a very used 6 cylinder SR5 4Runner. The family had a teenager who really ran it into the ground. He was out of control so they took it from him and sold it. I have replaced the whole front end, CV axils,upper and lower control arms bushings, ball joints and so on. I have also taken it to the dealer for the steering and head gasket recall which they fixed without any questions. My question is, is there anything I need to know about the 92 which is of concern? I will most likely not use it for much hwy driving as I have another vehicle. I mostly bought it for launching a boat on steep boat ramps and not getting stuck on the ramp.Thanks for any response.

well, don't be shocked about the lack of power the V6 3.SLOW has. I've owned an '89 22RE 4Cyl, and am now driving a '92 SR5 V6, and the 3.SLOW has a LOT less pep than the 4 Cyl. Most people say to swap in the '95+ 3.4L V6, or since you're swapping stuff in and out, the Lexus V8 (one of the members here has a nice link to that process).

If it has the "Stock" 225/75/15's on it, throw them out a window, get 31x10.50/15's or 235/75/15's. the itty bitty tires that the data plate calls for are entirely too small. I liken it to driving around on pizza cutters.

Make sure that you have your Tire let-down tool, they are dang near impossible to locate in a junkyard, dicey to get on Ebay, and the Toyota dealer wants 316.00 for it.

I'm sure some of the more senior members her can give you a few more pointers

Thanks for the info. It actually has 16 inch wheels on it. The speedo is a little off because of it but I don't intend long drives either so it will be ok. I am not going to be doing a lot of off road stuff so the power is fine for now. Maybe a little play time here and there, but mostly just launching a boat and getting back up the ramp without needing a tow. Thanks again for the reply.

Next thing might be replacing all the fluids - coolant, trans/t-case and diffs gear oil, brake fluid
