1993 Runner in Costa Rica

Hey all,

If wrong section please let me know. I'm moving to Costa Rica in a few weeks and a friend has a 1993 4 Runner for sale. It's a manual, 4 cylinder 4x4 with about 100k miles. I'm embarrassed to even say the price..keep in mind that vehicles in CR are very expensive and go for 5x what they sell here..the price is about 6k..I know, ridiculous but that is actually an okay deal there. In any case I do not want to ask about the price but about anything that I should look out for or anything that is problematic with this year/generation? Any basic things or input would be helpful.

Frame rust can be a big problem, check it thoroughly.
At 100k miles it's due for a new timing chain, check if that's been done.

At $6k, would it not be easier to buy something in the states and drive it down there?

Well, the issue is that they charge a huge import tax to bring any car into the country. So, I could buy and old runner and bring down but it will end up costing me about the same anyways. It would be a couple grand to bring something down..
