1994 4runner 3.0 problems

ok, here goes. first off i would like to say that it would be nice if someone would actually post on a thread when they find out whats wrong with their vehicle..i read through hundreds and they give advice and then you get to the end and the person they are helping never says what worked.
my son has a 1994 3.0. this thing has been a pain since he got it. he sold his Nova to get it because he has a baby now and he needed something a little better. the truck is HARD to start. turns over and over and then finally cranks up and runs rough for about 30 seconds then its ok. we have changed the MAF, ignitor and coil, seafoamed it, cleaned the IAF, changed the plugs....the only thing that help the low idle it had was when i cleaned the IAF and throttle body. tomorrow i am changing the fuel filter.........any ideas?

also, the AC/Heater has never worked at all, does not blow at all. rear heater blows and works. i checked the fuses under the glovebox and they were good. i have heard of an inline fuse but cannot find it. i put a 12v heater in there for now and it blew the lighter out. now when i check the 10amp fuse under the glovebox, it has no power going to it. any ideas there?

any help would be appreciated. i am just trying to help him get his rig right because it is actually very nice inside and out but has these two problems.

Just a heads up, you may have issues with the fuel filter. Spray the nuts with LOTS of penetrating oil first.

Are you using a stock battery? Make sure it has enough cold cranking amps to start the runner.

Blower motor could be dead for the heat/AC issue.

Good NGK plugs?

try tapping pretty hard on the blower motor... otherwise pull the connector and check for voltage.

As for your hard starting issue, verify your cold start injector is operating correctly. If you don't know what it is, I'll tell you:

open the hood and look at the intake manifold... look at the part that is cast into it and says "TOYOTA." Now look to your left and it will be literally the highest connector you can find on that side of the engine.

Since I never had experience with a CSI, I played around with it. In some seriously COLD temperatures it is an absolute pain to start. cranks quite the length of time and runs like crap for a few seconds. subsequent restarts within a short time frame or if the engine is warmed up are fine.

The fuel filter is definitely something to change as well.

x2 on the cold start injector. Also, spend the $15 or so and replace all of the vacuum lines. I just did this on my new rig, 3.0 as well, and it is doing a lot better. For me it was piece of mind and I in turn found several that were probably there when new.

On the blower, check the blower motor resistor. It is a very cheap part (~$15) that was the problem in my old 4runner. It would only operate on one speed. The speed options can simply burn out over time.

Changed fuel filter....ummm...if i were to do it again i would have taken it to the carwash and sprayed the crap out of the bottom....after getting dirt all over me and installing it....the truck started better but not like it should.i have taken the csi out before and cleaned it....what was weierd when i did was the smell of the fuel...kind of smelled like really old gas...dunno....as far as the heater goes....i am not getting any power to the 10. Amp fuse....or anywhere past thay....goin crazy. reading wiring diagrams

did you prime after replacing the filter?

as far as the blower goes... I'll take a look at the system diagram and see if we can't figure it out.

How do you prime the fuel....is it where u turn the key on and off

yeah just after you do the pump or filter... so you're not cranking til the fuel pressurizes.

so now im thinking it may just be the whole ac switch is out. i have been looking over the diagram for the heater and i guess if the switch is out then nothing else would work...except the rear heater i suppose
