1994 stalling problem

I recently purchased a 1994 4-runner with a 3.0. Sometimes, not often and cant find a consistent cause, the truck will idle fine, when I drop it into gear, it will idle really low, below 500 rpm and fluctuate between 0rpms and 500rpms. Till happen when coming to a stop. Once put back into Park or Neutral, it’ll idle fine. At times it will die and restart no problem

Any suggestions?

on the airfilter housing, there is a huge hole, im guessing the previous owner cracked it. Could this be a potential issue?

If it's above the air filter, it's letting unfiltered air into your motor which is never a good thing but not the end of the world. If it's behind the AFM, it's letting in unmetered air and that could absolutely cause your engine to run poorly. Post a pic?

i will tonight. its on the area towards the fan. Ill post a pic tonight though. I covered it with some tape once i noticed Temporary fix though

That is definitely your problem. That hole is enabling a whole lot of extra air to get in, which in turn is killing your 4runner. I would run to a junkyard and get another one.....

Yah, that's your airbox. I've never owned a 3.0, but the hose you're looking at doesn't look like your intake tube though, it looks like a vacuum hose.

I could be wrong. Either way, you need a new airbox. A junkyard is a good bet, you can get one from any truck '88 to '95 that has the 3.0 motor. Take yours off and schlep it with you so you can compare the parts at the counter and make sure you're set.
