I really try not to take anything JohnD90 says too seriously (how can I take anyone who is 17 too seriously). I'm sure he loves his 4runner since he spends most of his spare time on this forum, but anyone who spends every waking hour comenting on every single post just to increase his post count thinking it will establish him in a internet community by recycling stuff he reads online isn't my idea of time well spent. I can't even remember the last informative thing he posted without interjecting his worthless opinions... John, I have nothing against you. You seem like an intellegent kid, but perhaps you should follow what most people do by reading more, and posting less. Opinions are worthless unless they are helpful.

I don't think people mean disrespect when questioning asking price but when you look around $13k is a bit over the top when I paid $13500 for my '99 (mid gen upgrades,locker,Yakima rack and Sport pkg) in '04. If you are being offered $11k you better take that since those offers are far and inbetween. Even with low miles and great shape you might see $10k at best but most 4Runners no matter how many miles are in the $5-10k range and the higher values are for newer year 3rd gens.

It is one of the cleanest '96s I've seen period so you should see a bit on the higher price spectrum so good luck with the sale.

Truck is worth $6k, $7k max, good luck, there will always be some assh0le ready to overpay because they have no idea what they are looking at, but i doubt someone is willing to fork up $13k or $11k for a 14 year dime a dozen car that you have to shift yourself. There are quite a lot of 5 speed V6 4runners they are just a little harder to find.

the other thing that makes it valuable is its not located in Colorado for instance where 7 out of every 10 4runners goes to live! That manual and elocker will be worth more in that area...

$12,500 cash. I was patient and kept the truck washed, waxed and vacumed every weekend to show it. A local from Los Gatos bought it for their son.

BUMP for a super nice and very clean 4Runner.

As I live in Colorado, I believe it would be worth closer to $1,000,000. The prices for these trucks out here are simply unbelievable. I've seen 1999-2000 T4R's with 130K miles change hands for over $9K. Saw a '99 in fair condition and 115K miles sell for nearly $10K after being for sale for less than 24hrs at a Nissan dealership.

As I searched for months to find my rig (that I just bought Monday), I can tell you from my experience that $8K seems to be the sweet spot for a 99-00 5-spd 4x4 that has been looked after. You can get a 96-98 for $7K with the same setup. All of this is assuming mileage <130K and the truck not in need of MAJOR work (e.g. timing belt, rear seals, etc.).

As for this pristine example, I'd peg it at $10K 'cuz of mileage/options/condition. However, it's entirely possible that someone will absolutely be Jonesin' for your rig and willing to pay top dollar.

Bottom line: it's your truck, so do what ya want.

Just reinforces the fact that JohnsD90 knows nothing about cars and nothing about buying and selling them. I searched for 5 years for a locked 5 speed. The guy who bought it from me spent quite some time searching for a 5 speed, found a few... but a combination of mine being very clean inside and out, low mileage (80,XXX at the time), 5 speed and locked and other options made it too good to pass up for them. In the end the buyer started at offering me $10k, then $10.5, then $11 firm but I was patient and he gave into $12,500. I encouraged the buyers that I would not sell my truck for less so they could take their time and look at other SUVs to make their decision... then took 3 days to decide and came back to buy my truck. It IS used, so there will always be things that may need attention but at 80k original miles it's still VERY young and the paint was extremely shiny and in great condition as you can see from the pictures.

As far as I'm concerned he's not even educated enough to coment about working on rusty cars, at his age he's probably only worked on a handful.:gun6: Isn't this kid like 16?! Congrats on the sale. Good old Los Gatos kids and their rich parents. They seem to love to spend money. I'm from Santa Cruz so I'm quite familiar with people from Los Gatos. I'm not surprised you got that price for your 4runner in the Bay Area. It's nice if you are selling a 4runner, but sucks if you are buying.

Now,now. You've sold your vehicle, no need to hang around here further and bash people. I can say you are lucky you live in the state of CA where people will pay $12.5k for their son's vehicle.

Edit: Perhaps you should give JohnsD90 credit for buying his own vehicle instead of letting his parents buy it for him (Assuming he did infact.)

everyone's market pricing is different. The economy is affecting us all a little differently.

Glad to hear you got yours sold. And got very close to the price asked. That is good news for all of us that improve and maintain our rides.

96's are sure not rare here. 5 speeds a little more rare. Rear lockers a little more rare. Guess mine should sell for like $15K in Los Gatos!
