i think the speaker is coming out under the slit cut out 1" by 1" square area under the keys about 6 inches down.

use a 10 mm socket and remove the 4 bolts holding the panel under the steering wheel on. after you drop that down with wires still attached where those slits are at. disconnect that speaker and u should be golden. try it and listen if the sound has stopped.

I always try to find the noisemaking device first and try to kill it, but I seem to recall pulling apart a connector located right at the ignition key switch...I believe I got the info from a long, somewhat argumentative forum thread here. Snap the plastic cover away from the switch area and it's right there.
The nice thing is that I disabled all of the annoyance buzzers/chimes EXCEPT the one that I like to have: The "you left the headlights on, stupid" one.

yeah the one i talked about might be the head lights. i didn't think about that. its right around there. so just play with it. you cant break anything.

Says this:
I've got to get to a trail work day so for now I did this to my 96 SR5:

and buttoned it back up. Four bolts for the panel under the steering column, 1 blue connector unplugging below the ignition switch. No more door buzzer. Still have the headlight on warning. Unfortunately no auto-unlock when you leave the keys in so I am going to dig further when I have a chance.

On the 96 the buzzer is by the fuse block, though I didn't want to disable that. I am not adverse to cutting wires though, but need to find a wiring schematic to see if that's an option that will allow for only the door buzzer to be disabled.

And now I really do gotta go. Have a great day everyone, I gotta go dig in the woods, woohoo!!

(no, I have not looked into the auto-unlock feature yet)

Put some strong tape next to the door, where it locks in. There's a little rubber piece with a nipple type sticking out. If you can push it like a button. That disables the noise, the door pushes it in. So put some tape haha.

I'm bringing this thread back to life due to some misinformation on this thread about disabling the door chime on a '97 4runner. The above suggestions do not apply to a '97 because the door chime is part of the integration relay. It's also not part of the dash control circuit board. There is no blue plug near the ign switch, unfortunately.

Please check the attached EWD page for clarification. There is a pink with black wire that goes to the "key u/l sw" terminal of the integration relay. I'm thinking of cutting that wire but not sure what the ramification would be.

I don't want my daughter to accidentally to leave her keys in the IGN then hit the door lock button. I think this wire may prevent that from happening but I don't know for sure. I guess I can cut it and see!
